Jeff Battle, known nationally as one of college basketball's top assistant coaches, begins his sixth season at Wake Forest as associate head coach and his 22nd season overall in the coach- ing profession. Battle is with head coach Skip Prosser for the 14th straight year and at his third different school. He was on the Loyola (MD) College staff in 1993-94 when Prosser made his head coaching debut, then joined him on the sidelines at Xavier for seven sea- sons before coming to Winston-Salem prior to the start of the 2001-02 season. Battle has been instrumental in Wake Forest's success the past five seasons as the Deacons won a school-record 27 games in 2005, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004 and won the 2003 ACC regular season title. Wake Forest has averaged 22 wins per season during Battle's tenure. Battle, a tireless recruiter, has helped bring in four consecu- tive blue-ribbon recruiting classes. A former head coach at the Division I level for seven years, Dino Gaudio brings a wealth of experience and basketball knowledge to Wake Forest. Gaudio enters his sixth season on the Demon Deacon staff as associate head coach. Gaudio, who is in his 25th year of coaching overall, came to Winston-Salem from Xavier, where he served as an assistant coach under Skip Prosser for one season (2000-01) and previ- ously under then Musketeer head coach Pete Gillen for six sea- sons (1988-93). In between his two stops at Xavier, Gaudio served as the head coach at Army for four seasons (1994-97) and as the head coach at Loyola (Md.) College for three years (1998-2000). "Dino brings a wealth of experience to our staff," Prosser said. "He does an excellent job in developing our forwards. "Dino has to be considered one of the best teachers, coach- es and recruiters in the country." Pat Kelsey, who played on the college level at Xavier under Skip Prosser, will begin his sixth season on the Wake Forest basketball staff in 2005-06. Kelsey, who enters his third year as a Demon Deacon assis- tant coach, has seen the program reach new heights. Since his arrival in Winston-Salem, Wake Forest has averaged 22 wins per season, earned five postseason berths, produced the school's first-ever No. 1 national ranking and won an ACC reg- ular season championship. In his role, Kelsey is involved in several facets of the Demon Deacon basketball program.
