Tall buildings always have relied on technological innovations in engineering and scientific progress. New technological developments have been continuously taking place in the world. It is closely linked to the search for efficient construction materials that enable buildings to be constructed higher, faster and safer. This paper presents a survey of the main technological advancements on the example of selected tall buildings erected in the last decade, with an emphasis on geometrical form, the structural system, sophisticated damping systems, sustainability, etc. The famous architectural studios (e.g., for Skidmore, Owings and Merill, Nikhen Sekkei, RMJM, Atkins and WOHA) that specialize, among others, in the designing of skyscrapers have played a major role in the development of technological ideas and architectural forms for such extraordinary engineering structures. Among their completed projects, there are examples of high-rise buildings that set a precedent for future development. By Jeff Coy, ISHC Paris was the world’s most-visited city in 2010 with 15.1 million international arrivals, according to the World Tourism Organization, followed by London and New York City. What’s Paris got that your city hasn’t got? Is it the nickname the City of Love? Is it the slogan Liberty Started Here or the idea that Life is an Art with images of famous artists like Monet, Modigliani, Dali, da Vinci, Picasso, Braque and Klee? Is it the Cole Porter song, I Love Paris, sung by Frank Sinatra? Is it the movie American in Paris? P.O.BOX 34689, Jeddah 21478, Saudi Arabia E-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Received: 15.04.2020 Revised: 18.05.2020 Accepted: 12.06.2020 Abstract This work proposes an iconic landmark for Jeddah presented in a Sky Tower that would possess a symbolic, aesthetic and historical value. In this work, three case studies were evaluated. Based on the case study analysis, the estimated gross floor area for the sky tower is 23607 m2. The sky tower is comprised of several zones such as main lobby, commercial area, cultural area, amenities, sky pod, offices rental and administration. Furthermore, in this work, three sites were proposed for constructing the sky tower. Based on site evaluation analysis, site 3 was selected as the proposed development site, as it had attained the highest evaluation score of 93. This sky tower would bear recreational facilities for unforgettable experiences creating a "sense of place" for Jeddah as well as boost its tourism attraction. Jeddah Sky Tower would reflect the beauty, the cultural and innovative ingenuity and the social richness of Jeddah acting as a high profitable enterprise influencing a variety of visitors to approach. In his earlier works, notably in "The Mystery of a Hansom Cab" and "The Silent House in Pimlico," Mr. Hume won a reputation second to none for plot of the stirring, ingenious, misleading, and finally surprising kind, and for working out his plot in vigorous and picturesque English. In "The Bishop's Secret," while there is no falling off in plot and style, there is a welcome and marvelous broadening out as to the cast of characters, representing an unusually wide range of typical men and women. These are not laboriously described by the author, but are made to reveal themselves in action and speech in a way that has, for the reader, all the charm of personal intercourse with living people. Mr. Hume's treatment of the peculiar and exclusive ecclesiastical society of a small English cathedral city is quite worthy of Anthony Trollope, and his leading character, Bishop Pendle, is equal to Trollope's best bishop. The Reverend Mr. Cargrim, the Bishop's poor and most unworthy protegè, is a meaner Uriah Heep. Mrs. Pansey is the embodiment of all shrewishness, and yields unlimited amusement. The Gypsies are genuine—such as George Borrow, himself, would have pictured them— not the ignorant caricatures so frequently drawn by writers too lazy to study their subject.
