May 2021 Dear Potential Sponsor, Thank You for Your Consideration in Becoming a Sponsor for Arizona D13 Little League Baseball Arizona D13 Little League www.az13llb.com May 2021 Dear Potential Sponsor, Thank you for your consideration in becoming a sponsor for Arizona D13 Little League Baseball (AZ D13). AZ D13 is a non-profit, tax exempt, volunteer organization committed to building character, responsibility and sportsmanship in the youth of our community. We sponsor co-ed programs that allow participation regardless of physical ability or financial situation. In the past 20 years, our organization has been very successful in All Stars and has sent three of our Majors teams all the way to Williamsport, PA to compete in the Little League World Series! Two teams from Chandler National LL and one team from Ahwatukee LL. Eight Little League (11-12 Division) teams from District 13 have become AZ State Champions and gone on to represent Arizona at the Western Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, CA In the two younger divisions (8-9-10 and 9-10-11) there have been many State Champions as well. There are several players from AZ D13 that have gone on to very successful college and even pro careers. Some of these players are included on page 2. Arizona District 13 has the honor of hosting the AZ State Majors Little League Tournament this July. Hundreds of Little Leaguers and their families will converge at the host site, Tempe Sports Complex. In order to help meet some of the costs involved with All-Stars, we are seeking help from our community. Without the help of our community, it would not be possible for our teams to compete as they do. 100% of all money raised goes directly to the players and helps with items such as practice fields, equipment, lighting, baseballs, etc. Our players take pride in representing the district, leagues and our community all while playing a game they love! As a sponsor, you are eligible for an income tax deduction. Your business, with a web link, will be added to our website, social media page and advertising material garnering statewide attention. If you are interested in sponsoring the AZ State Majors Tournament, please contact Heather Church at [email protected]. • Combining Radar and Optical Sensor Data to Measure Player Value in Baseball
sensors Article Combining Radar and Optical Sensor Data to Measure Player Value in Baseball Glenn Healey Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Irvine, CA 92617, USA; [email protected] Abstract: Evaluating a player’s talent level based on batted balls is one of the most important and difficult tasks facing baseball analysts. An array of sensors has been installed in Major League Baseball stadiums that capture seven terabytes of data during each game. These data increase interest among spectators, but also can be used to quantify the performances of players on the field. The weighted on base average cube model has been used to generate reliable estimates of batter performance using measured batted-ball parameters, but research has shown that running speed is also a determinant of batted-ball performance. In this work, we used machine learning methods to combine a three-dimensional batted-ball vector measured by Doppler radar with running speed measurements generated by stereoscopic optical sensors. We show that this process leads to an improved model for the batted-ball performances of players. Keywords: Bayesian; baseball analytics; machine learning; radar; intrinsic values; forecasting; sensors; batted ball; statistics; wOBA cube 1. Introduction The expanded presence of sensor systems at sporting events has enhanced the enjoy- ment of fans and supported a number of new applications [1–4]. Measuring skill on batted balls is of fundamental importance in quantifying player value in baseball. Traditional measures for batted-ball skill have been based on outcomes, but these measures have a low Citation: Healey, G. Combining repeatability due to the dependence of outcomes on variables such as the defense, the ball- Radar and Optical Sensor Data to park dimensions, and the atmospheric conditions [5,6].

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings March 19, 2018 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1996-Hamilton County voters overwhelming approve a one-half cent sales tax increase to finance new stadiums for the Reds and Bengals MLB.COM Quackenbush making case to join Reds roster By Mark Sheldon MLB.com @m_sheldon Mar. 18th, 2018 GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- A non-roster reliever, right-hander Kevin Quackenbush has quietly done at Spring Training exactly what a pitcher trying to earn a job should do: put up zeros. In seven appearances, Quackenbush has allowed no earned runs with one unearned run, five hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts. He struck out the side with one walk in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Giants. "I'm still here. It's still exciting," Quackenbush said on Sunday. Quackenbush, 29, is seeking one of the final bullpen spots and is among several contenders still left in camp. Unlike fellow competitors such as Austin Brice, Kevin Shackelford or Zack Weiss, the Reds will have the added hoop of trying to find room for Quackenbush on the 40-man roster before he goes on the 25-man active roster. There are currently two openings. After he had four big league seasons with the Padres, Cincinnati signed Quackenbush to a Minor League deal in October and invited him to camp. "Quackenbush has had a nice spring," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He's been the off-the-radar guy that has really pitched very well. He's extremely prepared, and he has great confidence in his fastball for a guy who has a really good curveball and isn't really overpowering as far as the sheer velocity numbers, but he's a guy that pitches with that elevated fastball extremely well.
