Bridgwater Campus & Cannington Campus www.btc.ac.uk BRIDGWATER CAMPUS & CANNINGTON CAMPUS TRAVELLING BY BUS TO COLLEGE INFORMATION & TIMETABLES From August 2018 TRAVELLING BY BUS TO COLLEGE Most buses providing routes to the College are public service buses. As such timetables and rules of carriage for public transport apply at all times. In addition to students from the College, fare paying members of the public will use the same buses. Like any other passenger, any student using a bus is required to have a valid ticket for each journey. WHICH PASS? 1. College students can chose to purchase a ticket and pay the driver for each journey or; 2. Make use of any special tickets issued by operators such as First Bus/Buses of Somerset or; 3. Purchase the subsidised passes offered by the College for students from Clevedon, Portishead, Weston, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet, Wiveliscombe, Yeovil or Tiverton (Bridgwater & Cannington Campuses only); 4. Purchase the Somerset County Ticket. Careful research and planning is required to ensure the chosen ticket provides the best value for money for each individual student. This will depend on, for example, the number of journeys a student will make each week, location of work placement, availability of public transport at other times. Whilst the Somerset County Ticket allows unlimited use within Somerset from 1st September to 31st August, the College bus passes allow one return journey Monday – Friday term time only. All passes need to be ordered in advance to gain maximum value. Whilst it is possible to order a County Ticket during term time, once term has started students will need to purchase a bus ticket for each journey while waiting for the pass application to be processed by Somerset County Council. This can take up to 2 weeks during busy times. One replacement pass can be ordered if the pass is lost or stolen at a cost of £10. SOMERSET ‘COUNTY TICKET’ This is available to learners who live or study in the County Borders of Somerset: • Application forms are available online from Somerset County Council. • This ticket is for the whole year and can be used on all County registered routes. • Payment can either be made in full or by direct debit to Somerset County Council. • One annual pass to be collected at the start of the Autumn term from the College. • Students in financial hardship may be eligible for financial assistance from the College. • Please ensure you order your County Ticket by the date given in the application form to ensure you receive it by the start of term. Late orders will mean you having to pay for your journeys until the pass is processed – this can take up to 15 days. If you require any further information on the ‘County Ticket’ or have any queries please contact Somerset County Council on 0300 123 2224 or Student Support on 01278 441233. BRIDGWATER & TAUNTON COLLEGE PASS Clevedon, Portishead, Weston, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet, Wiveliscombe, Yeovil & Tiverton routes • Can apply to the College for the ‘Bridgwater & Taunton College Pass’, application forms are available from Student Support. • Payments are made either in full, by direct debit or termly to the College on collection of each terms’ bus pass. • This ticket is valid for one return bus journey a day, to and from college, term time only. TRAVEL CODE OF CONDUCT All students are expected to abide by this travel code of conduct to avoid facing disciplinary action from the College or sanctions from bus companies • You are expected at all times to act as an ambassador for the College, whether travelling on public service buses or on College organised coaches or minibuses. You are therefore required to behave appropriately and with due consideration for all other passengers. • It is College policy that all students wear seat beats at all times where these are available. You are expected to act responsibly at all times, for your own safety and that of others. • You must not distract the driver, make undue noise or throw any items at each other, however small. • Avoid any form of reckless behaviour and report any incident to the driver or College staff immediately. • Breaking the law in relation to possession, taking or dealing with illegal substances, alcohol or solvents will result in the instigation of the disciplinary procedure. This may result in your exclusion from College. • Smoking of any sort is banned on College transport at all times, regardless of age. • You are expected to refrain from behaving anti-socially. Verbal or physical abuse of the driver or other passengers is a breach of the Code of Conduct and will result in disciplinary measures. • Bullying or harassment of others is never tolerated. • Defacing or damaging any part of a vehicle used for College transport may lead to you being required to pay for repair costs or criminal charges being brought against you. • Fraudulent use of bus passes will result in the withdrawal of the pass. In addition, the bus company may prosecute and ban you from travelling on their services. The following are examples of fraudulent use of any bus pass: • Lending your pass to someone else • Changing the details on the pass • Using the pass for journeys not covered by the pass CONNECTION SERVICE First bus provide a connection service between Bridgwater and Cannington for all County Ticket holders or fare paying students.
