Dachshunds. Small, whip-smart, energetic. They are ranked among the most popular breeds, and there's no question why. They are tough and brave. Dachshunds make great guard . Their voice and determination make up for their small size. They average about 16-32 pounds. Dachshunds love to play and are tireless. They are very devoted to their family and owners, and kid-friendly. 3 Personality 4 “

The small dogs have many reasons to like them. They have a wide diversity in coat colors, two different sizes, and three types of fur texture. Dachshunds also have a very persistent style of living. In the past, Dachshunds were known for and following prey into their dens. They rarely hunt now but they kept that persistence. 5 Surprisingly, the coat type can help determine the personality of a Dachshund.

The three coat types are Wire-haired, Long-haired, and Smooth-haired.

▪ Wire-haired are energetic, adventurous and brave. They also are known mostly for being mischievous. ▪ Long-haired are as mellow as the breed can be. They are relaxed and like to cuddle. ▪ Smooth-haired are in between. 6

Why I love Dachshunds 7 My favoritism for these long dogs was started by me looking through a photography book.

The first picture was graceful and calm. The second lively. The third shy. I suddenly took a liking to these dogs. I started to look into them a little bit, and that only made me like them more. Don't get me wrong, I love our big rottie. But dachshunds seem smarter and braver (and, well, smaller). They can exercise for the amount of time that is eligible for you, but love a good run. They are clever and adaptable, ready for any living style. They learn quickly when motivated and can become bored. Dachshunds are also very affectionate and loyal little dogs. Those are a few reasons why I like them. 8 9

"A half dog high and a dog and a half long," Famously described by journalist and critic H. L. Mencken.

Breed History

They were first bred in about 600 years ago (though there is proof of them existing in the 15 hundreds) for hunting , Dachs means and Hund means dog. They were bred for being smart and brave, following its prey into its den. They were prized for being able to smell and root out digging pests. The first dachshunds had smooth coats and could be any color. Dachshunds were also used for other things. Packs of them were used to hunt boars, and they also hunted out of there sets. 12

Small, playful, brave, and smart.

Those words are used to describe my favorite , Dachshunds. They have a big bark but an even bigger personality. These bright dogs are ranked 13th most popular dog out of 155, and there obviously shouldn't be a question why. 13 14
