The Education team at theWikimedia Foundation is excited to present this resource as an integral part of the “Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom” program� “Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom” is a training program that helps teachers understand and leverage Wikipedia as a learning tool by connecting it to the components of UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy framework� In the first pilot stage, we developed a teacher’s tool-kit and professional training program to align with the local education systems and teachers’ realities in three pilot countries� This resource will help educators to teach vital media and information literacy skills for the 21st century, including understanding how information is produced, how to access and evaluate content online, and how to understand biases and knowledge gaps� This training program also addresses key questions we received from teachers about how to keep students safe online, and how to equip them to face the various forms of disinformation and misinformation online� Wikimedia Foundation The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization that hosts Wikipedia and its sister projects� We work towards a world where everybody can freely share in the sum of all knowledge� We support a global community of volunteers who collaboratively collect, develop, and share educational content, and we advocate for values and and Information Literacy (MIL) framework: access, evaluate, and create� UNESCO proposes an integrated approach towards an interdisciplinary concept of literacy, and as such MIL is defined as “a set of competencies that empowers citizens to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate and use, to create as well as share information and media content in all formats, using various tools, in a critical, ethical and effective way, to participate and engage in personal, professional and societal activities”� We believe that learning how to critically engage students with Wikipedia is key to achieving the competencies encompassed by the MIL framework� For the development of this Teacher's Guide, we have used principles of the Understanding by Design framework to organize the essential questions and enduring understandings� Each module incorporates clear learning outcomes for teachers as well as classroom applications of the knowledge they will gain� We have followed a constructivist approach where we connect the teacher’s own previous experiences and knowledge with how Wikipedia works� Reflection questions and activities help teachers construct new knowledge and connect it to their classroom practices and experiences� This pedagogical approach is in tune with our educational philosophy: • We believe that open educational resources are vital to providing quality education for all and that participating in open movements helps students grow as 21st-century learners • We believe students learn best when they facilitate their own learning journey with the support of teachers • We believe people of all backgrounds and abilities should be able to participate and learn through our programs • We value local knowledge and experiences and believe that our programs should enable the inclusion of localized learning resources in the classroom • We believe student wellbeing is imperative to their academic and social development 6 Module 1 How to use this Teacher's Guide The content of this Teacher's Guide incorporates the wealth of knowledge created by Wikimedia communities and it has been designed to easily adapt to different contexts� It draws from Wikipedia policies, guidelines, essays written by Wikimedians, and a variety of resources helpful to understand Wikipedia, its communities, and practices� You can find the original sources from where this content was adapted in the References section� This Teacher's Guide is licensed by the Wikimedia Foundation under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4�0 international license� This means that you are     Wikimedia Foundation Quarterly Report April — June 2015 Q4 of the fiscal year Foreword We are pleased to bring you the Wikimedia Foundation’s Quarterly Report for Q4 of the 2014/15 fiscal year. This is the third report since we switched from a monthly cycle, to align with our quarterly goal setting process. We are continuing to optimize the report’s format and the organization’s quarterly review process that the report is based on, to bring you better information at a lower overhead for the teams that take out time from their work to tell you how they have been doing. Participation in the review process is good and growing. This issue includes some new pieces of information, e.g. the approximate size of each team (in FTE, on average during this quarter), and for each objective, the number of team members who were involved with a significant amount of their time. The overall metrics scorecard now contains new, more reliable uptime numbers for both readers and contributors. As before, we are including an overview slide summarizing successes and misses across all teams. In a mature 90 day goal setting process, the “sweet spot” is for about 75% of goals to be a success. Organizations that are meeting 100% of their goals are not typically setting aggressive goals. Once again, the Handbook has been revised and updated to reflect the evolution of this discipline, and the many strategic, operational and technical challenges OSINT practitioners have to grapple with. Given the speed of change on the web, some might question the wisdom of pulling together such a resource. What’s wrong with the Top 10 tools, or the Top 100? There are only so many resources one can bookmark after all. Such arguments are not without merit. My fear, however, is that they are also shortsighted. I offer four reasons why. To begin, a shortlist betrays the widening spectrum of OSINT practice. Whereas OSINT was once the preserve of analysts working in national security, it now embraces a growing class of professionals in fields as diverse as journalism, cybersecurity, investment research, crisis management and human rights. A limited toolkit can never satisfy all of these constituencies. Second, a good OSINT practitioner is someone who is comfortable working with different tools, sources and collection strategies. The temptation toward narrow specialisation in OSINT is one that has to be resisted. Why? Because no research task is ever as tidy as the customer’s requirements are likely to suggest. Third, is the inevitable realisation that good tool awareness is equivalent to good source awareness. Indeed, the right tool can determine whether you harvest the right information.

    Annual Report Prepared for the General Assembly 2012 WIKIMEDIA CH Association for the Advancement of Free Knowledge Facts and Figures As of June 1st, 2012, Wikimedia CH has 101 members, which is an increase of about 12% compared to one year before. Thereof, 19 are supportive members and 9 members represent legal entities. From the remaining 73 members, 68 are primarily German-speakers, 25 French- speakers, 5 Italian-speakers, 2 Romansh-speakers and 1 English- speaker. The gender distribution is as follows: 91 male, 10 female.     Wikimedia CH Annual Report 2018 A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR FACTS & FIGURES GLAM EDUCATION COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION & OUTREACH OUTLOOK 2019 1 A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT Last year was defined by strategic action and Wikimedia CH built on strong foundations established in 2017, while benefiting from key learninGs that will shape activities GoinG forward. This year was the first full year that the strateGic action plans of GLAM and Education, two of Wikimedia CH’s three impact directions outlined in the 2017-2020 strategy, were implemented. As a result, both focus areas saw strengthened ties and expanded impact throuGhout the country. For the third consecutive year, we orGanised successful GLAM on Tour events, including the first event of its kind in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. By partnering with MAMCO in Geneva and Migros in Zurich, Wikimedia CH engaged community members while helping protect and disseminate Swiss cultural heritage on Wikimedia projects. We also leveraged the nation-wide campaign #CulturalHeritage2018 to reach new audiences. The Education proGrammes continued to build on last year’s successes, with increased collaboration with WikiToLearn and Devoxx4Kids, as well as enGaGement at events like Media in Piazza to teach young people key digital skills and media literacy. We further contributed to several hackathons and workshops in partnership with universities, which demonstrated to students and professionals alike the value of Wikimedia projects to their work. Wikimedia CH also supported several Community events at the reGional, national and international levels. Most notable were the German-, French- and Italian-speaking WikiCons, including the first ever WikiCon held in Switzerland.
