If the decision is made to delay or close school, our district will make every effort to notify parents, guardians, employees and the community as soon as possible. With few exceptions, the decision to delay or close school is made by 5:45 a.m., before buses begin morning routes. As soon as a decision is made, a SchoolMessenger email will be sent to all parents and employees, and a text message will be sent to parents and employees who subscribe to the notification service. Information will also be posted on the district website, Twitter (@BGISD) and Facebook accounts. The district will not make early morning phone calls to every household. The following media are also contacted during inclement weather: Television: Radio: WBKO WKCT 930 am WKYU 88.9 fm WUHU 107 fm WNKY NBC 40 WCVK 90.7 fm WDNS 93.3 fm WTVF Nashville Ch 5 WGGC 95.1 fm WBVR 96.7 fm SPECTRUM TV WKLX 100.7 fm WCLU 102.3 fm In rare instances school may be dismissed during the school day to avoid afternoon weather conditions. The Emergency Message will call all household phone numbers, send messages to all email addresses, and text messages will be sent to text subscribers. School days missed due to inclement weather will be made up. The 2017-2018 calendar lists February 19, March 15 and 16, as possible make- up days. If necessary, others may be added to the end of the school year. Please consider the possibility of make-up days as you make vacation and/or graduation plans. All baseball communication will be conducted via the Remind App a. Send text to 81010 b. In the body of the text, enter @bgjhspr 2) We will begin voluntary “open gym” hitting in January one or two days per week. Typically based on numbers, we will split this up by grade. If the weather cooperates and we can get outside, we will do so. I will communicate these open gyms via the remind app. You must have a current sports physical on file before you can participate. 3) We will tentatively start the baseball official tryouts on Monday February 12th. This is weather dependent. If we can start a few days earlier, we will. If we can’t get outside, we will likely delay tryouts. 4) All players must swing a BBCOR bat, -3. Little league bats or travel ball big barrels are NOT allowed. 5) Junior High tryouts are open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader. However, this is typically not the best baseball spot for 6th graders due to the size of the field and the size of the bat plus their size relative to 8th graders. 6) All junior high practices and games will take priority over any other team, any other sport, during our season. Our season starts with tryouts, and will end on/around May 10-15th based on end of season tournament 7) We typically will keep around 18 players each year, and typically we keep a few more 8th graders than other grades 8) Our outdoor practice location is Hobson Grove field. Our indoor location is the BGHS fieldhouse by the High School field. 9) Once the team is formed after tryouts, we will have a mandatory parent and player meeting Contact Coach Lukas Forbes if you have any questions. • 30 A.M., in Order to Inform Our District Parents, Students, and Employees in a Timely Manner
EAST MIDDLE NEWS JANUARY 15-20, 2018 Be Proactive ! Inclement Weather Policy Any Superintendent or Transportation Director will tell you that one of the most difficult decisions to make is whether to close, delay, or open school on days of inclement weather. This is a challenge because it is based upon the probability of students and staff traveling safely to our schools. The process begins at 4:00 a.m., with district personnel and weather spotters strategically placed throughout the county, and monitoring road conditions. During this time, district officials are in consistent contact with Bowling Green officials, law enforcement agencies, and the news media for the latest update on weather forecasts. The goal is to make a decision no later than 5:30 a.m., in order to inform our district parents, students, and employees in a timely manner. Because this decision is made early in the morning, there may be a need for a revision later, if there are rapidly changing weather conditions. It is important for parents to continue checking television and radio stations after the initial announcement, in the event weather conditions dictate a change. Although we realize these decisions are subject to second-guessing, I ask that you remember all decisions are based solely upon the safety of our children, and we will always err on the side of caution. WHAT FACTORS GO INTO MAKING THE DECISION TO CLOSE/DELAY/ or DISMISS EARLY? Weather forecasts from radio and television stations (the time snow/ice or freezing rain is expected to start and end) Predicted
