Lakeshore District Operations Guide The Lakeshore District of the President Ford Field Service Council serves the Boy Scouts of America in Ottawa and Allegan counties in lower Michigan. This guide is intended to assist units deliver the Aims and Methods of Boy Scouting, character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness, by providing them with relevant information regarding Scouting in our District. This is the new Lakeshore District Calendar and Operations Guide. Please use it when creating your unit’s calendar. We have tried to include events from the President Ford FSC calendar. We have a great Commissioner team. This guide list all of the commissioners and the units they to which they are assigned. If you have any questions please contact your assigned commissioner, the Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) for you area, or me. We are proud to be a Journey to Excellence Bronze district for 2016. We encourage all units to complete and turn in their JtE at recharter time. Yours in Scouting, Bob Robert J. Broene District Commissioner Dear Scouters, Welcome to the Lakeshore District! Our District serves all BSA units in Allegan, Ottawa, and SW Kent Counties. The role of the District Board and its’ volunteer members is to help grow membership, direct fund raising initiatives, and to enhance program, advancement, and training delivery. Our District continues to be a leader in these areas of focus throughout the Michigan Crossroads Council. As your District Board Chair, I am committed to building upon our successes and look forward to working with you along the way. New Member Online Registration Member Care Center For issues regarding the Online Registration System, unit leaders can call 972.580.2489. District and Council volunteers and professional staff cannot access leads or inquires for your unit, such as clearing a stuck lead. Internet Advancement Units are required to use the Internet Advancement procedure to record scout advancement. Units will NOT BE ALLOWED to purchase rank emblems from scout service centers without an Internet Advancement Form! https://scoutnet.scouting.org/iadv/UI/home/default.aspx Service Hours Reporting Website A service project is a special Good Turn that puts Scout spirit into action. Some Good Turns are big: saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working on conservation projects. It is essential that units record their service hours into the national system! https://servicehours.scouting.org/ Age Appropriate Guidelines for Scouting Activities These criteria are designed to assist unit leaders in determining what activities are age-appropriate. Activities that do not appear on the chart should be reviewed using these criteria. This publication clearly identifies mandated procedures with words such as “must” and “shall.” Where such language is used, no council, committee, district, unit, or individual has the authority to deviate from the procedures covered, without the written permission of the National Advancement Committee. There are limited exceptions relating only to youth members with special needs. Recommended best practices are offered using words like “should,” while other options and guidelines are indicated with terms such as “may” or “can.” Refer questions on these to your local district or council advancement chairs or staff advisors. They, in turn, may request interpretations and assistance from the National Advancement Committee.
