Dear Audience Members,

Thank you for attending this performance of "1940's Radio Hour". I wasn't born anywhere near the 1940's-neither were most of the cast members. Yet in spite of having no living experience with that era, I found myself feeling that I was in quite familiar territory. The period references, the slang (both p.c. and not), the characters-everything in the show is so evocative of the times that it is hard not to feel as though one had experienced it all first hand. And of course the music. The glorious, sing-able, recognizable, wonderful music. I think we on this production have developed a kind of nostalgia for a time we never lived. And we have the luxury of selective nostalgia: since we were never there, we don't remember any of the hardship. Many of you do remember the times from first hand and the related sacrifices you made to see us win an unprecedented war against tyranny. Let's hope that tonight brings back only fond memories for you youngsters who made the '40s happen, and that our show happily transports everyone to one of the most complex simpler times in recent history. For me, it is appropriate to do a show which looks at the past as this year marks my twentieth as a musical theatre director. I'm happy to be working with some folks in this cast who have known me for many of those years. While 20 years of community theatre may be some kind of minor accomplishment, knowing some one in community theatre that long is a major one. My thanks to all the actors, producers, staff members, musicians, and techies with whom I have worked who have devoted so many hours of talent to make the magic. I couldn't-a done it wid outcha. Please enjoy our show and thanks again.

He has performed in over 60 produc- tions as an actor and over 50 as a director, his most recent being "Little Mary Sunshine" for SCP last year.Through the years, Ben has had the privi- lege of working with some of the "giants" in this business, including Mae West, Caesar Romero, Martha Ray, LilyTomlin and even feasted on fried chicken with Helen Hayes. But the highlight of his career has been work- ing with daughter,]ulie, now 14 in three productions.Always glad to have you on our stage, Ben!

JOE CqLLETTI (Lou Cohn). Joe returns to our stage for his second appearance and his second show of our season, having just performed the role of Hysteriurn in "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". Previously he had been seen in the role of Nicely Nicely Johnson in SDG's production of "Guys & Dolls". His impressive list of theatrical cred- its include leading and supporting roles in FMT's pro- ductions of "The Music Man", "The Three Penny Op- era", "ALittle Night Music", "Fiorello", "The Boys From Syracuse", and "Carousel" .Ioe graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BAin Theatre/Film and has worked on several student films as well as Apply Industrial Videos. He has also performed with Mystery By Design. In his spare time.Joe likes to play racquetball, date, go web surfing or cycling, and maybe even read a good book, not necessarily in that order! Some of his ambitions are to do more Shakespeare, opera and more film work. When we hoped he would perform with us again in the near future, we had not idea it would be so soon. But Joe's timing and comedic talent are always welcome on our stage. DAN MEAGHER (CliftonA. Feddington). Dan, a San Francisco native and making his debut with WVLOA, was most recently seen in the two sold-out runs of "Party of One" at the Hillbarn Theater. He has also been seen in "Red, Blonde, and Blue" at Bella Mia Res- taurant, "Show Boat" with DLO, "Into The Woods", "Grease" and Sondheim's "Assassins" at ACT.Dan was a scholarship recipient to the AMTS]'s Theater Artists institute and recently took first place in the Musical Theater vocal contest at SFCC.He holds a Masters in Broadcast journalism from USF and has worked on shows for KPIX, KGO, KCBS,andA&E's Cable. His ambition is to appear in a Broadway musical so we wish him well, then we can say we knew him "when"!!

RON PACKARD (Neal Tilden). Another California native, Ron may be making his debut with WVLOA, but he is no stranger to television or theater. His first appearance was Papa Bear in SJCMT's "Goldilocks & The Three Bears". Since then his credits include "Bells Are Ringing" for Foothill College, "Inspecting Carol" for Bus Barn Stage and most recently in "Crazy For You"with PCLO.In addition,Ron has appeared in two national commercials and two television specials with such celebs as Joe Piscopo and Pee-wee Herman! As a Property Claims Representative for Farmers Insurance, Ron says the high- light of his life is surviving the rainstorms of the last two years! With hob- bies like skiing, traveling and golf, we are grateful that Ron sacrificed many relaxing hours to be in this cast.

DIANE MILO (Ann Collier). Diane is another new- comer to WVLOA,but has been performing since she was 14 when she was a finalist in the Ted MackTalent Show. At 16 she performed in night clubs as a lead vocalist with various pop and jazz bands. Her long list of theatrical credits include roles in "Kiss Me, Kate" and "The Most Happy Fella" at FMT;"Evita", "Me & My Girl", Laurey in "Oklahoma!", Irene Malloy in "Hello, Dolly" and Babe in "Pajama Game", her most recent being the "City ofAngels "for the Pleasanton Playhouse. Diane is a Electronics Sales Representative for Engineering Associates, a position which brought her to the BayArea two years ago. The highlight of Diane's career was singing with a choir at Carnegie Hall and her ambi- tions are to headline in a LasVegas showroom and to record an album of old standards with a big band. With her talent, she certainly has the poten- tial so we look forward to seeing her in LasVegas soon! CAROLYN TIDWELL (Geneva Lee Browne). Another newcomer to WVLOA, but no stranger to this stage Carolyn was seen here as Rose in SDG's"Steppin'Out" and as Kate in "Oklahoma". Carolyn holds a BSin Edu- cation and is currently Director of Career Services at Menlo College in Atherton. She began her theatrical career in the 6th grade as the Dawn Fairy in "Hansel & Gretel" and most recently appeared as Olive in the female version of "The Odd Couple" at Hillbarn Theater. She has also appeared in "She Loves Me" for Theatre- works and "Blues In The Night" for PAP Her ambition is to work at Disneyland as a cabaret/jazz singer and she's getting a head start on that goal as a featured vocalist with the Mike Sloan Big Band. Carolyn's biggest thrill to date was singing in concert with LiveTaylor (Iames'Iaylor's brother). Her hobbies are dancing & photography, husband,Jeff, son, Sherman, and Great Dane,Ansel, not necessarily in that order! We are delighted to have Carolyn in our cast!

DESI THOMPSON (Connie Miller). Another new per- former to WVLOA, Desi is attending West Valley Col- lege majoring in Administration ofJustice. If you think that sounds "legal", you're right! Her first stage appear- ance was at Flint Center as a street urchin in "AChrist- mas Carol." Since then she has performed with SJCMT as Kathy Seldon in "Singin' In The Rain" & Judas in "Godspell". She played Rose Alvarez in "Bye,Bye,Birdie" for PYT and Val in Bellermine's "Chorus Line." Desi's most recent performance was in PAP's production of "Mack & Mabel". We think she has a great future outside the courtroom!

ROBERT P. BERGMAN (Iohnny Cantone). Although "Bob" has not been on our stage for over 2 years, this will be his tenth production with WVLOA, his most recent in "Where's Charley?" in the role of Sir Francis Chesney. Bob's other credits for us include principle roles in "Oklahoma!", "The Pajama Game", "Perfectly Frank", "The Music Man", and an ERMAaward for his supporting role of Sancho in "Man of La Mancha". Bob performed in several productions during the last two years: "Princess Ida" with G&S, "The Sorcerer" , "Ruddigore" & "The Zoo" with Stanford Savoyards, "H.M.S. Pinafore" with Lamplighters and in the role of Edward Rutledge in "1776" with SDG.A graduate of De Anza College, SJSU,and SC Law School, Bob is a licensed attorney, life insurance agent and securities agent, specializing in estate and investment planning. What a joy to have Robert P back on our stage! HEIDI KOBARA (Ginger Brooks). We welcome Heidi back for her second production with WVLOA. Last season's subscribers will remember her for her "elec- tric" performance as Electra in "Gypsy". Heidi earned her AA in interpreting for the deaf. She has been per- forming or training in all facets of theater since she was 10 years old when she played David in "The Small One". She credits her mother for driving her to every class and performance during her formative years and for putting up with her ever since. In her spare time, when she isn't performing as an exotic dancer, Heidi likes to play her celtic harp and her ambition is to stay in the theater and not starve. We feel very fortunate to have Heidi back on our stage again!

FRANCO M. BERARDI (BJ Gibson). This is Franco's second production with WVLOA, for he played the role of Riff in "West Side Story" in 1995.As a student at West Valley College, he has take jazz & tap at AMTSJ and performed in their productionsd of "Rags" and "My Fair Lady". He has also been featrued as Tony in "West Side Story" and Jesus in "Godspell". Franco just recently appeared in PAP's "Mack& Mabel." His ambi- tion is to be a police officer and production manager. We don't know how he will do both, but we certainly hope he sticks to acting with us in the future.

IAN LEONARD (Wally Fergusson). Ian also makes his debut with WVLOA and as a native San josean be- gan his theatrical credits in high school in "Guys & Dolls."His favorite roles have been Will Rogers in "Will Rogers Follies", Conrad Birdie in "Bye,Bye Birdie", and Neal Tilden in "1940's Radio Hour." His most recent stage appearance was in SJCMT's "Annie Warbucks" and recently acted as assistant director for "The Emperor's New Clothes." Ian attended USF for two years and is currently a part-time student working at the SJ Public Library. He says the highlight of his young career is being punched by Annette Bening's brother on stage. We trust he'll replace that highlight with a pleasanter experience, hopefully, in this production! Wel- come, Ian. DREW CAMPBELL (Stanley). We welcome Drew to our stage for his first appearance with WVLOAin this production, but he is no stranger to theater. His cred- its include his debut as a Siamese child in "The King & I",his favorite roles: Harold Hill in "The Music Man", Max in "Lend MeATenor" ,Jack Rover in "Wild Oats" & Jonathan Whittaker in "EasyVirtue." He most recently was featured as El Gallo in "The Fantastics."Drew lists his profession as an actor, singer, dancer, magician, musician, computer technician and freelance writer (his first book will be published in April-watch for it at Crown Books!) and coffee drinker. Is there anything you can't do, Drew??

GORDON P. BOWMAN (Biff Baker). Even though • V many subscribers won't recognize Gordon, he has been with WVLOAsince he made his first appearance in "The Sound of Music" in 1988. In 1991 he was a Russian soldier in "Fiddler On The Roof" and for many other productions, he was playing trombone in our orchestra. He last appeared in SCP's production of "1940's Radio Hour." He sings tenor as a member of STOCtet, the chorus group ofSTOC,loves rollerblading and works for Courtesy Tow as an automotive trans- port technician. Gordon comes from a very musical family, all play musi- cal instruments and all have been members of our orchestras through the years. They have been referred to as the "Bowman Family Players" and Terri, Gordon's Dad, who plays bassoon, served as Music Director for WVLOA's"Where's Charley?"Gordon's trombone has also been in the "pits" for SDG,SCp,PAp,and PCS since the early 1980's, thanks to the encourage- ment of his family. He plays roles of the basic bad guy, but he is certainly an asset to any production.
