CARREÑO BUSTA, FOGNINI CHASING SECOND TITLE OF 2016 IN MOSCOW

• DAY 7 PREVIEW: Since 1990, the VTB Kremlin Cup singles title has been won by just one Italian, and never by a Spaniard. Can follow in the footsteps of 2012 champion and deny Pablo Carreño Busta ’s 10th ATP title of the season?

First up at Olympic Stadium, Austrians Jurgen Melzer and have the chance to roll back the years against Colombian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and . It has been three years since Melzer and Knowle last played together on the ATP World Tour – explained, in part, by Melzer’s 10-month absence with a shoulder injury – and the reunion has paid dividends in Moscow, where they are chasing their fifth title in tandem, and first since 2009. No. 2 seeds Cabal and Farah stand in their way, the Colombians still in the hunt for a place at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals next month. Currently two places outside the top eight set for London, they can close to within 500 points of a qualifying spot with victory today.

Both Fognini and Carreño Busta are seeking their second ATP title of the season in the singles final, a feat the Italian achieved in 2013 with victories at Hamburg and . Fognini is playing just his second ATP hard court final – his last appearance also came in Russia, at the 2012 St Petersburg Open (l. to Klizan). Fognini had not won in Moscow before his third attempt in 2016 but the world No. 50 has subsequently seen off three seeds to reach the final. Carreño Busta is seeking his second hard court title after winning the first of his career at Winston- Salem (d. Bautista Agut). He will hope to join fellow Spaniards (ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo, ) and Bautista Agut (Auckland, Sofia) among the multiple title winners of 2016.
