Yeah, I bet you’re thinking it’s just for know‐it‐all nerds with nothing to do. But you’re wrong! Scholastic Bowl is just as fun as any other group. As part of the team, I can say that so far in the season we’ve all become a family, which is what you do when you ride long bus rides together, share pre‐game snacks, answer questions, and support each other. We all get along well, and we know when to help each other out with questions we don’t know. Speaking of questions, let me give you a taste of the stuff we go through. The questions range from history in the 1800’s all the way to popular music today. We do grammar, we work out algebra problems, we spell. It’s not really that much of a complicated process. It all depends on what you know. Now, for each team—A‐Team and B‐Team—we have captains. The A‐Team usually consists of our eighth graders and B‐Team is our seventh and sixth graders. If someone is missing, another member of the team will stand in, and if you don’t get to play, you can get switched out at the end of the first round or after a number of questions. The questions are called toss‐ups and if you answer a toss‐up, then a bonus question is put out. If you answer the question, then you are able to answer the bonus question first. The bonus questions are usually in five parts, though they can come in four or three. The match is usually over if all thirty toss‐ups are answered or if twenty bonus questions are answered. So, yeah, that’s the Scholastic Bowl experience. If it seems interesting, come see us at a home match! Don’t know when a match is? Just ask. We’ll be happy to tell. Congrats on a great year so far Scholastic Bowl! The team consists of Ana Boyd, Logan Leavitt, Jessica Ramos, Christina Nunez, Maggie Cyr, Taylor Mezo, Cait Boyd, Lillian Schreiner, Holly Camp, Natalie McClure, Mason Tolan, and Matt Milaneses PBIS FIELD TRIPS Spelling Bee Continued from Page 3.
