  • NCAA Champion Emma Bates to Join B.A.A. High Performance Team
BOSTON ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 185 Dartmouth Street, 6th Floor Boston, Massachusetts 02116 617-236-1652 www.baa.org For Release: Monday, July 27, 2015 NCAA Champion Emma Bates To Join B.A.A. High Performance Team The 12-time All American is the newest addition to the B.A.A.’s elite athlete group, coached by Terrence Mahon BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston Athletic Association is pleased to announce that former NCAA 10,000 meter champion Emma Bates has joined the B.A.A. High Performance Team, coached by Terrence Mahon. Bates, who graduated from Boise State University this spring, brings great experience to the B.A.A., which is sponsored by adidas. "I am overjoyed to be given the opportunity to run for the B.A.A. Knowing the strong history behind the Boston Athletic Association and the people involved made the decision easy,” said Bates. “I am looking forward to making the B.A.A. and the rest of Boston proud to support me leading into the Olympic year of 2016, and beyond." Originally from Elk River, Minnesota, Bates earned twelve All American honors while racing for the Boise State Broncos. In 2014, she won the NCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships title for 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 32:32.35. Her win was the first national track and field title in Boise State school history. "We are very happy to welcome Emma to the B.A.A.," said Mahon, who joined the B.A.A. in 2013 in preparation for the B.A.A. High Performance group’s launch.

  • Olympic Trials Proved to Be the One Unfortunate Stumbling Block of the Year
2016 Eugene – July 1 to July 10 The hosting of the Trials in Eugene three times in a row, for the second time, was unprecedented, and while the Trials saw no World Records on this occasion, they did produce a terrific series of marks and dramas. With live action in field events by NBC best described as minimal, US television did a typically poor job in covering what still remains as the best domestic track and field meeting in the world. The crowds and weather conditions were as follows: Attendance: July 1—20,987, July 2—21,866, July 3—22,424, July 4—21,713, July 7—21,835, July 8—22,256, July 9— 22,847, July 10—22,944 for a total of 176,972. (There was no admission charge for hammer day, July 6). Weather: July 1 to 6 —sunny, breezy, with highs of 85, 89, 82, 79 and 84; July 7-—cloudy, rain, highs of 77 and 72; July 9—windy, light rain, high 74; July 10—cloudy, rain, high of 68 100 meters – July 3, 17.53 Hr; wind +1.6 Reaction 1. 3.
