STONEY CREEK GOLF COURSE Fact Sheet STONEY CREEK GOLF COURSE Fact Sheet Address: Wintergreen Resort Route 664 Wintergreen, Virginia 22958 Phone: 434-325-8250 Web Site: www.wintergreenresort.com Location: Wintergreen’s Stoney Creek is situated in the beautiful Rockfish Valley, 3,000 feet below the tips of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The course is located on Route 151, just southwest of Charlottesville, minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, less than two hours from Richmond and three hours from Washington, D.C. Opening Date: 1988 (Monocan, Shamokin nines) 1998 (Tuckahoe nine) Course Architect: Rees Jones (all 27 holes) Play Policy: Resort, open year round Description: Immaculate fairways wind through a natural setting with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing enjoyment for every level of golfer, from serious competitor to vacationing beginner. Traditional in design, it incorporates natural springs and native habitat, including Lake Monocan, with all three nines offering generous landing areas, few forced carries and large, deceptively contoured greens. Superintendent: Fred Biggers, CGCS Director of Golf: Geoff Redgrave, PGA Class A History: Laid through the fertile floor of the historic Rockfish Valley, the Stoney Creek golf complex originally was only 18 holes, consisting of what now are the Monocan and Shamokin nines. Golf Digest selected it as runner-up for “Best New Resort Courses” in 1989. A decade later, Tuckahoe was the final nine blended into the design, upon which Rees Jones remarked, “I think what Stoney Creek is to me, is one of the great settings in mountain golf.” -more- P. O.
