The candles have all blown out leaving her memory in the smoke. I'm just a ghost haunting the place where her heart once loved. Haunted by her eyes and chained to her smile, My ghost doesn't rest but drifts past our window to dance with the dust caught in the moonlight wanting her back, dreaming her open arms reaching out for him. Just a shadow on these walls, that's all that I am. Just a ghost wandering this room where her heart once loved waiting for her to come back. 7 Between the Lines ILLUSIONS DISEASE By Samantha Sadoh Our world has designed standards and ideals, They want people, especially females, to uphold. Standards to make the human flesh seem perfect, But leave unsolved problems, While forging new ones mentally and physically. No flaws, soft skin, hide the authentic self; it brings shame, And not fitting the molded structure is disgusting. We promote body shaming and downgrade females who’re outside the standards. Models not healthy while maintaining the image. No matter how much glory they get for the image, Their pain is still there behind closed doors. The ones being downgraded are wounded, feeling off brand. We accept these illusions and standards, They stab and drain blood from the hearts of many women. It's the sick game of an illusionist, To slaughter as many souls as it can take. We have partaken in this, And hold the broken souls in our hands. Stuck on futile things that will fade away, That has nothing to do with worth and identity. People so used to fake, they can't accept anything real, Insulting her as if she is inadequate. You all in the king's court of puppeteers, Your gloomy pedestal will soon collapse. The illusions, riches, and glory won't save your soul. We came from dust and shall revert to dust, But your heart contains an artic blizzard. We say we like the natural skin but don't promote it, Appreciation subsides as the droppings on the street. Sprouted as a mythical place but became altered by intruders. Along our journey, we encountered snares and traps, That made

In this age of buying and selling, Is there something, they're not telling? What does it cost them to sell? Much less than what we pay, (so why should they tell?) There would surely be a riot then, If we knew just what they spend. We'd all be up in arms and yelling, What they are keeping secret and not telling. The only trouble with profit is greed, as it satisfies no normal need; It's a road paved with bad intentions, No more health plans, no more pensions. We've nothing further more to gain, We've known all along where troubles lain; We're on a non-stop, hell-bound train, We're in a whirlpool, going down that drain. For what? Big bucks and corporation, All for the profit of one small nation; A nation of the powerful and few, Someday they crash...just like me and you.

  • Big Country Book of Lyrics Was Originally Offered Online As a PDF File on a Web Site That Later Grew Into the Current Steeltown Site
D e s i g n e d b y R o b e r t O l i v e r Introduction Project History The Big Country Book of Lyrics was originally offered online as a PDF file on a web site that later grew into the current Steeltown site. Since I had not been pleased with the formatting restrictions of HTML, I had decided to create a file in Adobe PageMaker and then convert it into a PDF (Portable Document Format) file. This format allows complete control over layout and typography, but can result in very large files. Although PDF files are relatively small compared to their original documents (all of the original PageMaker files for this book total over 18 megabytes), a project as large and comprehensive as the Big Country Book of Lyrics results in an appropriately hefty PDF file. Even though I have since converted all lyrics to HTML and incorporated them into the Steeltown web site, the PDF version is still a handy and useful resource, especially when printed and bound for reference. As ubiquitous as the world wide web has become, a printed version of the Book of Lyrics is easier on the eyes, quicker to thumb through, and does not require an internet connection. Document Navigation The following methods are available for finding your way around the Big Country Book of Lyrics while using the Adobe Acrobat Reader: 1. Scan down the bookmark list on the left and click on the item of interest. 2. Use the keyboard arrow keys or the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys depending on which version of the Acrobat Reader you are using.

  • The Affective Turn the Affective Turn
SOCIOLOGY/SOCIAL THEORY WITH A FOREWORD BY MICHAEL HARDT In the mid-1990s, scholars turned their attention toward the ways that ongoing political, PATRICIA economic, and cultural transformations were changing the realm of the social, specifically that aspect of it described by the notion of affect: pre-individual bodily forces, linked to autonomic TICINETO responses, which augment or diminish a body’s capacity to act or engage with others. This CLOUGH, “affective turn” and the new configurations of bodies, technology, and matter that it reveals, is the subject of this collection of essays. Scholars based in sociology, cultural studies, science editor studies, and women’s studies illuminate the movement in thought from a psychoanalytically informed criticism of subject identity, representation, and trauma to an engagement with information and affect; from a privileging of the organic body to an exploration of nonorganic Turn Affective The life; and from the presumption of equilibrium-seeking closed systems to an engagement with the complexity of open systems under far-from-equilibrium conditions. Taken together, these essays suggest that attending to the affective turn is necessary to theorizing the social. “From the trauma of cultural displacement to the political economy of affective labor, the essays brought together here examine the many facets of affect, focusing on its consequences for theories of the social and well-informed by recent rethinkings of power. Expertly framed by Patricia Clough’s introduction, the volume presents a

  • Big Country Book of Lyrics Was Originally Offered Online As a PDF File on a Web Site That Later Grew Into the Remarkable Steeltown Site
THE BOOK of LYRICS Compiled by Michael S. Wallack v2.1 (March 5, 2007) This page intentionally left blank Introduction Project History This project is truly a labor of love. Big Country's music has played a very important part in my life over the last twenty years and this project is, in part, my way of giving something to those who share my love of Big Country. The Big Country Book of Lyrics was originally offered online as a PDF file on a web site that later grew into the remarkable Steeltown site. Unfortunately, the real world intruded and the original compiler decided to stop further updates after the release of the "Somebody Else" CD singles. At that point, I stepped in and decided to assume the responsibility for the Big Country Book of Lyrics. Alas, the real world also delayed my ability to keep up with new releases and the Book of Lyrics fell into limbo. Now, however, it is finally time to resurrect the Big Country Book of Lyrics. Dedication The Big Country Book of Lyrics is, of course, dedicated to Bruce Watson, Tony Butler, Mark Brzezicki, and to the memory of Stuart Adamson. May the music they made inspire us for generations to come. Stay alive! Driving home from work shortly after posting v2.00 of the Book of Lyrics, I realized that I had forgotten the most important dedication of all: To my wife; the first girl that I dated who liked Big Country. She has put up with my obsession all these years, and, since I began this project, has never once laughed at me or told me that I was wasting my time.

  • BIG COUNTRY Dates Available in Feb-May 2014 ------Big Country Was Originally Formed in 1981 by Guitar Playing Founder Members Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson
Proudly presents Legendary Scottish Band BIG COUNTRY Dates available in Feb-May 2014 ------------------------------------- Big Country was originally formed in 1981 by guitar playing founder members Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson both natives of the band's hometown Dunfermline in Scotland. Initially driven by a shared vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyric, the classic Big Country sound was further enhanced later that summer by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bass player Tony Butler. This is the Big Country that (with producer Steve Lillywhite), recorded the classic debut album 'The Crossing' in 1983. The band broke massively worldwide with the release of the album's classic singles 'Fields Of Fire', 'Chance' and signature song 'In A Big Country', which went on to become massive worldwide hits, selling over 2 million copies and driving 'The Crossing' to 3 prestigious Grammy nominations in the USA. The run of success continued throughout the 1980's with the release of the anthemic single 'Wonderland' and the second album 'Steeltown' (1984), which debuted at Number 1 in the UK and contained the hit singles 'East Of Eden, 'Just a Shadow' and 'Where The Rose Is Sown' . In 1985, Big Country appeared at Live Aid in London followed by further successful album releases 'The Seer' (1986, which included the bands biggest UK hit 'Look Away', which also reached Number 1 in the Irish Singles chart) and 'Peace In Our Time' (1988), which saw the band playing the first ever privately promoted gig in Russia at the Moscow Sports Stadium. At the start of the 90's 'Through A Big Country', featuring all the bands classic hits was released, followed by the fifth studio album 'No Place Like Home' (1991) taking the band's total record sales to well over five million copies.
