Summer 2020 (For GPS Locator—91 State Hwy 3, Bar Harbor, ME ) 207-288-4849 ~ Shalomcoof@Gmail.Com the Rt CHURCH OF OUR FATHER Words from the Well PO Box 186 HULLS COVE, MAINE 04644 Summer 2020 (For GPS locator—91 State Hwy 3, Bar Harbor, ME ) 207-288-4849 ~ [email protected] www.churchofourfather.org The Rt. Rev. Thomas James Brown, Bishop of Maine Anthony Sousa, Senior Warden The Rev. Mary-Carol Griffin, Deacon Senior Warden’s Corner Summer 2020 Who could have imagined! Six months ago words like Coronavirus, Zoom, YOUTUBE, masks quarantine, etc., were not part of our vocabulary. By now they have become the “New Normal”. Our MDI Episcopal Churches have stepped up and are providing Sunday Services on YouTube. Jim Vallette, St. Saviours, and Jayne Ashworth, St. Johns, have produced a very processional format. Our three priests, Bill Hague, Steve Muncie and John Burton, along with members of all four congregations, have made a very important addition to our Christian lives. In addition, Father Steve Muncie at St. Mary’s, Northeast Harbor, has an online Zoom Bible Study on Wednesday mornings. I have been providing “Music & Chatter”, on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 P. M. on the MDIEpiscopalYOUTUBE channel, to add some music to help us be together. Please join me and see who our surprise guests are. The team that has provided the YouTube programs, is studying the idea of live services. At first the services will be limited to a live site (one of the churches). In the beginning the services will be limited to those persons that are part of the services. After we are “allowed” to be back in our churches, the team wants to have live ser- vices on YouTube, rotating between the parishes. That way those who cannot make it to church will have an op- portunity to participate. This will be a major commitment, but is under study. Our plans to sell the Rector are proceeding well. Our Appraiser, Tim O’Brien, is finished his report, and we sent to the Diocese, along with additional paperwork from Jim Kitler. Our Realtor, Gail Caruso and I have met with our tenants and we are ready to list the Rectory. The resulting funds from the sale will go into our Van- guard Investments and help us with the financial responsibilities of our church. Regarding the progress on the planned search for a priest for the three churches; The Search Committees have now finished all the paperwork and Canon Michael Ambler will be advertising our information “On Line”, starting this week. Bishop Brown indicated during one of his “Coffee Hours”, that there appears to be great in- terest by priests wanting to come to Maine. Maybe this has something to do with the present conditions around the country. Please pray for a successful Search. Your Vestry is meeting regularly by Zoom and we welcomed back Larry Johnston as he is now happy to be back home in Ellsworth. As always, please let us know what is on your mind. We look forward to hearing from you. Blessings, Tony Sousa ( What a great MDI Episcopal Parishes meeting we had with Bishop Brown in June! Eve- ryone had the chance to connect and to express thoughts and concerns. Zoom may not be perfect, but it beats not seeing each other at all! Thank you, Bishop Brown! Standing alone… I had a sense of sadness for our beautiful Church the other day, while thinking about how lonely it must be. For the first time in 130 years the doors are locked, folks are not running in and out, phones not ringing, smiling secretary gone, no laughter and hugs in the halls to greet our summer parishioners, no good smells from the kitchen, no music and singing with- in its walls and no Communion with loving faces at its altar. There it is, standing alone. Time goes by. I bet others in our Church family and our Partnership Churches feel the same loneli- ness. We are blessed with beautiful weather, calls from friends, wonderful MDI Epis- copal YouTube Services, and “Music and Chatter” by Tony. We all anxiously await the day when we may be together once again and our little Church will be happy. • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.
