“It’s Showtime” In-School Residency Program

SONG GUIDE

In association with Prologue to the Performing Arts

PLEASE CONTACT JACK DIRECTLY TO RECEIVE YOUR MP3 SONG SAMPLES: [email protected] Introduction : Thank you for booking ‘IT’S SHOWTIME’ for your school. I shall be in contact with you well in advance of the dates to discuss your song choices for the 8 participating classes and to arrange the scheduling of the ½ hour work sessions, dress rehearsal and evening concert for the parents.

From the mp3 song files I will send to you and the lyrics found in this guide, I know your teachers/program leaders will match up the right songs with the classes. Students should be encouraged to learn to sing as much of their song as possible and/or to perform the suggested activities. Feel free to improvise. The intent of this program is to make it a fun and enriching performance experience which students share together with me on stage for their families.

Once I arrive in the morning of the first day and have set up my equipment on your stage, the classes will visit with me individually to rehearse and fine-tune their songs. For the concert I shall provide all of the musical accompaniment and where necessary, sing along with the students. If the children have prepared their songs well, we usually have some time left to explore some ‘world instruments’ that I bring along. This also allows students to get comfortable and familiar with their music show host.

For scheduling, I propose having 6 rehearsal sessions on the first day and the remaining 2 sessions before lunch on the second day. The dress rehearsal can take place any time in the afternoon, where other classes are invited to be in the audience. The evening concert can take place any time after 6PM. The duration of the concert is generally 45 – 50 minutes. I very much look forward to visiting your school and to work with your students.

All the little fishies in the deep blue sea The deep blue sea, the deep blue sea Swimming around so fancy free As far as your eyes can see

All the little bubbles floating up Floating up, floating up When the little bubbles reach the top If you listen you can hear them pop

Octopus and spider crab Looking for something they can grab Something to eat like a salty treat With a seaweed salad, it can’t be beat “mmmmm, it makes my mouth water” - (1st verse & instrumental section)

Plants under water waving Side to side, side to side Plants under water waving side to side With the ebb and flow of the tide

Big ocean waves swelling up and down Up and down, up and down Big ocean waves swelling up and down Swirling ‘round and ‘round

Oyster shell open wide Hoping something tasty will come inside Waiting, waiting, pretend to nap Then snap, like a big loud clap! [clap] “mmmmmm, what a tasty morsel” - (1st verse)

An ‘ojo de dios’ is a pretty thing A ‘god's eye’ woven out of sticks and string It's my own design, a pleasure to do And I made it just for you

Beads and baubles on a fancy chain Lace them, loop them, tie them up again It's gold and silver, purple and blue I made it specially for you

If you’re lucky you can ride on his back He’ll walk for miles and miles of track He’s clever and wise beyond his years And he loves it when you tickle behind his ears

You can wash his face you can scrub him hard Or you can hose him down in my backyard Feed him leaves, feed him hay And twigs will surely make his day
