What can I do, as a concerned resident, to make people realize that this community is only as good as they are willing to be? Dear concerned, First of all, I commend your attitude, which is a concern for the building and non-confrontational. We have many new residents who just are not aware of the rules and of the implications of ignoring them, and many longtime residents who just take the easy way until it has become habit. A mannerly statement of the rule to the offender with a big smile can go a long ways toward changing behavior without forcing a showdown of wills. Remember, try to create a good neighbor; don’t back someone into a corner where they have to be defensive. Don’t be the judge and jury, be a mentor.
