Football Senior Football (Ladies): Championship Semi Final; St. Naul’s V Buncrana - Yesterday brought the curtain down on our Senior Ladies championship when they travelled to Mountcharles to play St. Naul's in the Semi Final. St. Naul's won the toss and played with a strong breeze in the first half and their strong running had our girls on the back foot from the start, their shooting was top drawer and by half time they were well in control. In the second half our ladies kept pushing against the tide and never stopped trying but they just never got out of first gear to get their game going. It was a tough finish to their championship. U9 Boys: Buncrana V Burt - Pictured here are some of our U9 Gaels who played patches of good team football on Tuesday night against a good Burt side in a great spirited match. Special welcome to Oisin McNally who made his debut and played very well. Also well done to our referee Oran Doherty who did an outstanding job. The game was played in preparation for the Inishowen U9 league starting next week. U9s V Burt Burt Tournament - Congratulations to some of our U9s who played in a great tournament hosted by CLG Burt on Sunday morning. The boys battled back from defeat to Malin to record wins over Muff and MacCumhaills. They tired from all their efforts and we're beaten in the cup final against a strong Carndonagh side. Well done boys and keep the practise up the upcoming U9 Inishowen competition. Training continues this evening at 6.30pm. U9s – Burt Tournament U14 Boys: County Final; Buncrana V Naomh Ultan - Buncrana played Naomh Ultan in Burt on Tuesday evening in the County U14 Final. They were comprehensive winners on a scoreline of 12-8 to 2-8. This was an excellent end to the league campaign by Buncrana. All the hard work done since January by Michael and his backroom team paying dividends. Naomh Ultan opened the scoring with the first point of the game but that was unfortunately as good as it got for them. Buncrana quickly got into their stride and started to dominate all over the field. Buncrana fired over their first two points from Jamie Mc Daid and Oisin Crawford to go into the lead. Then the goal glut arrived with Buncrana getting 5 three pointers with their next five scores. Jamie Mc Daid scored 3 of the goals with one from Ryan Mc Daid and the other an OG. Naomh Ultan kept in touch finding the net on two occasions in the first half. Three Kevin Jordan points one from play and the other two from frees pushed Buncrana further ahead. The first half scoring finished with another goal from Jamie Mc Daid and one from Ryan Mc Daid. Half-time score; Buncrana 7-5 Naomh Ultan 2-5. Buncrana were even more dominant in the second half with Naomh Ultan only scoring three points for the half. Buncrana's scoring spree continued with goals coming from Oisin Crawford, Kevin Jordan and three more from Jamie Mc Daid. The game was long over as a contest when the final whistle sounded. Buncrana scorers were; Jamie Mc Daid 7-2, Ryan Mc Daid 2-0, Kevin Jordan 1-4, Oisin Crawford 1-2 and 1 OG. U 14 Division 2 County Champions Minor Boys: Championship; Letterkenny Gaels V Buncrana - Great win for minor lads in the championship on Wednesday evening. Letterkenny Gaels 2-8 Buncrana 2-13 Scorers; Ben Bradley 1-1, Peter O'Neill 1-1, Aaron Craig 0-3, Fiachra MacLochlainn 0-2, Ryan Hegarty 0-2, Dylan Duffy, Oisin Hegarty, Oisin Grant, Ben Roe 0-1 each Hurling: U16: League; Buncrana V Dungloe - Buncrana and Dungloe played out a thrilling game in The Scarvey on Thursday night. The game ebbed and flowed all evening before our lads pulled away in the last 10 minutes to win. Final Score; Buncrana 5-7 Dungloe 4-5 Senior: Championship; St. Eunan’s V Buncrana - Half time; St. Eunan's 2-3 Buncrana 0-5 Full time; St. Eunans's 4-8 Buncrana 2-7 Unfortunately our hurlers suffered a second defeat in the group stage of the Senior Hurling Championship. Equipment Store All managers, coaches, assistants, etc… are asked to please ensure that they place all gear back into the equipment store in an orderly manner. When it is left in an unruly state the equipment is then being damaged, lost, etc… Please be respectful of the equipment and fellow users! Club Gym The gym in the clubhouse is for club members only.     1 A Climbers Guide to Gweedore By Iain Miller www.uniqueascent.ie 2 Gweedore Gweedore, known locally as Gaoth Dobhair, lives in between Cloughaneely and the Rosses to the south Gweedores coastline stretches for approximately 25km from from Meenaclady in the north to Crolly in the south and it is one of Europe's most densely populated rural areas, it is also the largest Irish speaking parish in Ireland. Gweedore coast along the Wild Atlantic Way can easily be described simply as one enormous Caribbean type sandy beach and as such is an outstanding place to visit in the summer months. Within in the parish of Gweedore there an enormous amount of bouldering and highball rock dotted all over the region, it is simply a case of stopping the car whenever you see rock from the road and going for a look. There are so far two main climbing location both are quite small but will each provide a half day of vertical pleasure. Tor na Dumhcha being the better location and providing immaculate vertical Gola Granite to play on. The Sand Quarry Three short white granite walls are to be found just outside Derrybeg amongst the dunes north east of the pier for Inishmeane. GR8029. Take a left at the first brown beach sign outside of Derrybeg. This laneway L53231 is signposted as Bealach na Gealtachta Slí na Earagail, trá Beach. Park the car above the beach close to the solitary pick-nick table, Walk back across the flat grass to find a secluded granite outcrop located in a bit of a sand pit.

    MAJOR EVENTS AFFECTING THE COUNTY IN 1916 In a front line trench, France, World War I (Library of Congress, Washington) World War I in 1916 When war was declared on 4 August 1914, there were already over 25,000 Irishmen serving in the regular British Army with another 30,000 Irishmen in the reserve. As most of the great European powers were drawn into the War, it spread to European colonies all over the world. Donegal men found that they were fighting not only in Europe but also in Egypt and Mesopotamia as well as in Africa and on ships in the North Sea and in the Mediterranean. 1916 was the worst year of the war, with more soldiers killed this year than in any other year. By the end of 1916, stalemate on land had truly set in with both sides firmly entrenched. By now, the belief that the war would be ‘over by Christmas’ was long gone. Hope of a swift end to the war was replaced by knowledge of the true extent of the sacrifice that would have to be paid in terms of loss of life. Recruitment and Enlisting Recruitment meetings were held all over the County. In 1916, the Department of Recruiting in Ireland wrote to Bishop O’Donnell, in Donegal, requesting: “. that recruiting meetings might with advantage be held outside the Churches . after Mass on Sundays and Holidays.” 21 MAJOR EVENTS AFFECTING THE COUNTY IN 1916 Men from all communities and from all corners of County Donegal enlisted. They enlisted in the three new Army Divisions: the 10th (Irish), 16th (Irish) and the 36th (Ulster), which were established after the War began.

    THE Happy Christmas and Good Wishes for the Coming Year 2002 Welcome to our first edition of The Creeslough View, which you will find is filled with memorabilia, nostalgia, heritage and local history, - the story of life presented by members of our community. The purpose of the Creeslough View is to give the locals an opportunity to document stories, poems, and old photographs to remind us now and again of our past on which we build our future. Because so much happens throughout the year in Creeslough it was felt it would be a shame not to document it. It is hoped the Creeslough View will enable smaller clubs and voluntary organisations to show off their achievements throughout the year. The social history of this locality has changed dramatically, but all the more is the need to record and acknowledge for tomorrow’s world, the spirit and common good, the close knit and dependence on others as a community, and the many characters who sustained it during the difficult times. Genealogy plays an important role in how we view ourselves, our history and the connections we have around the world. Genealogy makes history come alive because when people learn about their ancestors they are able to make connections to history. This booklet provides a brief introduction to the family history records available within the Library, Archives and Museum Services of Donegal County Council. It will also guide those interested in tracing their family tree to other online resources and give the contact details of other agencies that can help in their research. This booklet has been funded by Donegal County Council’s Hands of History – One Donegal, Many Pasts, One Future project.
