MICHELINCLASSIC.COM, THE NEW GLOBAL WEBSITE DEDICATED TO ‘CLASSIC’ TYRES, FOR FANS AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS ALIKE

MICHELIN is set to take the wraps off a genuine reference tool on February 1. It targets fans of classic and industry professionals and will be unique in Europe. In launching www.michelinclassic.com, the French manufacturer is not merely inaugurating a conventional website to provide information on tyres for historic vehicles. Rather, the company is introducing a global service offering a complete service, from MICHELIN expert advice right the way through to online sales.

In addition to being a key player and pioneer in the promotion of mobility, MICHELIN also takes great care to maintain and preserve its living heritage. That is why the production of its ‘Collection’ tyres is so important to the Clermont-Ferrand manufacturer, and this investment plays a vital part in ensuring the perpetuation of its legacy.

A database of more than 2,400 vehicles

With www.michelinclassic.com, MICHELIN is offering an ‘all-inclusive’ service for vintage and classic connoisseurs, owners and industry professionals. Users will be able to find information on more than 2,400 historic vehicles. Better yet, for each one of them, www.michelinclassic.com will provide accurate figures for the specific era regarding all the relevant sizes, fitting procedures and advice in terms of recommended pressures for the tyres and inner tubes.

A dedicated ‘hotline’

Users of www.michelinclassic.com will also have at their disposal a telephone number to be able to make direct contact with a MICHELIN expert. Even if users do not wish to take advantage of this option, they can start a virtual conversation by asking questions online. In this case, the MICHELIN expert will respond swiftly by e-mail. Therefore, be they a fan or an industry professional, all site users will be able to rely upon the Clermont-Ferrand firm’s expertise to garner information that is crucial to their research.

Availability and online sales – a first!

Thanks to www.michelinclassic.com, web users will also be able to find out the availability of the tyre(s) they are looking for and consult the list of Michelin Classic stockists. They will even be given the option to order tyres and inner tubes online, via the retailer’s website of their choice*. What’s more, thanks to the ViaMichelin route-planning system, site visitors will be advised of the most straightforward itinerary to reach the Michelin Classic stockist in question and collect their tyres.

Available in three languages (English, German and French), www.michelinclassic.com offers an entirely new level of global service that is at the same modern, reliable and all- encompassing. Aficionados or owners of vintage automobiles will henceforth be able to rely upon www.michelinclassic.com as they endeavour to restore or fit their car with the correct tyres whilst fully respecting the vehicle’s authenticity.

* Information on the availability of tyres is based upon MICHELIN’s stock. Direct sales are possible only if the retailer offers an online sales service.

MEDIA INFORMATION January, 2014 MICHELIN Historic Motorsport and Classic tyres: yesterday’s with today’s technology

Buoyed by its knowledge and experience, MICHELIN is continuing to manufacture period tyres that it calls ‘Classic’ and ‘Historic Motorsport’ tyres. The former are designed to be fitted to collectors’ cars driven for pleasure on the open road, whilst the latter pertain to historic racing vehicles.

Both are products of MICHELIN’s expansive range of expertise which allows it to faithfully replicate the design and construction of the era while dialling in modern technological advances in the areas of research and development, methods and materials.

These tyres benefit notably from progress achieved in terms of grip thanks to the compounds that are employed. Their dynamic characteristics remain entirely in-keeping with those of the relevant period vehicles in terms of safety, durability, comfort and performance.

This is why MICHELIN’s Classic and Historic Motorsport tyres are acclaimed for their durability by collectors and car restoration professionals.

MICHELIN a partner of Classic

As was the case last year, MICHELIN is partnering RENAULT Classic during the 2014 edition of Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. After equipping five Berlinettes in 2013, MICHELIN is continuing the relationship by providing tyres for the RENAULT R8 which are taking part in this year’s event.

The Clermont-Ferrand company will supply its partner with 135R15 tyres, identical in size and appearance to those that were originally fitted to the cars. A studded version is also at- hand if it is required to overcome the traditional difficulties associated with this event.

Bruno COUÉ, manager of MICHELIN’s Classic and Historic Motorsport Tyres department, is delighted by this continuing association with RENAULT: “MICHELIN is thrilled to once again be working closely with RENAULT Classic during the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. Over the course of history, our two companies have greatly contributed to the evolution of the automobile and the progression of mobility, so protecting our heritage is essential. The RENAULT R8 is a legendary car that boasts an extraordinary record of success. We have therefore designed a specific mount for this iconic vehicle so that the drivers can take advantage of the performance and safety of tyres which benefit from the very latest technology, whilst at the same time conserving the sizes and appearance of the originals.”
