An advisor to the Mayor of Prishtina, Asdren Osaj, told Prishtina Insight that the monument will be moved to make space for the work that will take place to build an underground car park. “I cannot say at the moment whether it will be returned or not, that is something which is being discussed in the municipality and a deci- sion will be taken in due course,” he said. The area where the monument is placed was named Adem Jashari Square in the years after the war. And it had been rumoured that another monument honouring the ex-KLA leader will be placed instead of the Brotherhood and Unity which was built in 1957. However, Asdren Osaj says that as the matters stand the idea is to build the underground garages and then return the above spaces as they were, namely a square with greenery. There will be three such garages in three areas of the city, according to documents released by the town hall this week. Like most journalists, I often meet high-ranking officials for coffee, lunch and a chat about what is happening, key issues and problems. Even though I end up writing the article, I must confess I don’t always get the exact information I was looking for. During my stay in Brussels for the Balkan Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism, I noticed a completely different rhythm to the place where I work everyday.
