Pope Francis Accepts the Resignation of Auxiliary Bishop John Bura Philadelphia, Pa.—The Holy Father Pope Francis on Friday, November 15, 2019 accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, presented by Bishop John Bura. Bishop Bura, who reached the canonical retirement age of seventy-five in June, submitted his resignation pursuant to the provisions of Canon 210 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. Archbishop Borys Gudziak, of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia and Metropolitan of Ukrainian Catholics in the United States commented that “Bishop John is a kind and noble man who has served God, the Church and the community- at-large with dedication, both as a priest and as a bishop. Throughout a life that began in great danger and hardship he remained faithful. In my first months of service Bishop John has been for me a most valuable and reliable guide for under- standing the pastoral history and current issues of our archeparchy. Our prayers are that the Lord will grant him good health and longevity in retirement as he begins this new chapter in his life.” Bishop John was nominated on January 3, 2006 auxiliary bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia by Pope Benedict XVI upon the recommenda- tion of the Ukrainian Catholic Synod of Bishops. He was ordained a bishop by His Beatitude Lubomyr Cardinal Husar on February 21, 2006 in the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Phila- delphia. The principal co-consecrators were Archbishop Stefan Soroka of Philadel- phia and Bishop Michael Kuchmiak, C.Ss.R. of Great Britain. Bishop John was named the Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma on July 29, 2009 and served in that capacity until 2014, when Bishop Bohdan Danylo was named bishop of that eparchy. A couple weeks back, the Vatican signed a joint document with South American government leaders mod- eled after a U.N. population plan which includes abortion and contraception. It was done in the wake of the notorious Amazon Synod — which, for the record, some future pope needs to completely disavow and toss into the Tiber — and the United Nations plan talks about how to fight poverty. It’s called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The plan talks about all kinds of noble-sounding things, based on a lot of fake or exaggerated data passed off as science, but is little else than warmed-over, repackaged Socialism, with population reduction through either abortion or contraception, or both, near the top of the list. And it’s little else than a giant game of pretend, where marxists pretend to care about the earth and the poor and the environment — which tickles the ears of Team Francis in Rome — but then brings along population control in the same shopping cart. And the Vatican simply overlooks that. The average Catholic in the pews needs to understand what’s going on here. Tweet “The average Catholic in the pews needs to understand what’s going on here. But when there are other issues on the opposite side of the moral ledger, like climate change, immigration, death penalty and all that — well, what’s a few million abortions here or there?” But that’s exactly the calculus of these crazed clerics. But no Catholic, certainly in America, could possi- bly be surprised by this. Our very own bishops, for decades, have kept their mouths shut and refused to excommunicate fake Catholic pro-abort politicos because those same politicos buy their silence with hundreds of millions for immigration programs. The U.S. bishops, and their counterparts in Rome, all of them who participate in this evil are going to have hell to pay when they die if they do not change their ways. They have lied to themselves and created an official informal policy that they just won’t take any action on this issue. They think going to sleep at night privately being opposed to the most public slaughter in the history of humanity is somehow a moral stand, that they are basically good men, and will waltz into Heaven because they thought abortion was bad. They rationalize, no doubt encouraged by the taxpayer windfall they receive, that abortion is bad — but equally so is being unemployed, or scurrying

    June 12, 2015 Protocol Number: 96/15 S Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma has had its finances audited by an outside accounting firm, Simic CPA & Co., since 2011, which produces the financial statements of the Eparchy. I am pleased to publish the latest financial statements, for the year 2014, on the Eparchy’s website to help the faithful gain a clear understanding of the Eparchy’s financial state. I am also publishing alongside the financial statements a letter from Father Steven Paliwoda, the Eparchy’s Financial Officer, to explain many items in the financial statements in detail. I encourage you to read Father Steven’s letter in conjunction with the financial statements. It is important for the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma to be a good steward of the gifts entrusted to it, and transparent about its finances. Having our finances audited by an independent accounting firm, and publishing our financial statements online and sending them to all of our parishes, puts the Eparchy amongst the most financially transparent Catholic dioceses in the world. In the same way, it is also very important for each parish to be transparent in its finances and accountable to the faithful, who support the Church and for whom the Church exists to serve. I would like to make the following general observations about the financial state of the Eparchy. The Eparchy’s Financial Situation Continues to Improve, but is Still Precarious. Traska, who moved to Baltimore from Ukraine at age 6, drove more than an hour Nov. 11 from her Keedysville home in Washington County to the church on Patterson Park in Baltimore. Traska celebrated her first Communion and was married at the parish. “We grew up here,” said Traska, who attended St. Elizabeth School, Seton Keough High School and Notre Dame of Maryland University, all in Baltimore. “I love the music.” The Eastern Catholic church is in the Archdiocese of Baltimore but falls under the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. Metropolitan Archbishop Stefan Soroka and Father Vasyl Sivinskyi, pastor, were two of the five clergy members at the Mass. During his homily – almost entirely in Ukrainian – Archbishop Soroka said “you are called to be like God in all things.” About 250 people, many of whom are fluent in English and Ukrainian, filled the small church during the two-hour liturgy, which was mostly sung and in Ukrainian. A reception, dinner and dancing followed Mass. The Installation Ceremony began with a greeting by His Beatitude Major Archbishop Lubomyr Cardinal Husar followed by the reading of the Papal Bull of appointment from Pope John Paul II by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Apostolic Nuncio to the United Installation of Metropolitan-Archbishop Stefan Soroka States. ten years ago on February 27, 2001. Cardinal Husar and Archbishop Montalvo then led Metropolitan Soroka to the Episcopal chair, the “cathedra” where he was seated, or “enthroned” after the Apostolic Nuncio exclaimed, “Receive this pastoral staff with which you are to shepherd Christ’s flock entrusted to your care. Axios!” After the enthronement ceremony, all the clergy of the Philadelphia Archeparchy came forward to express their promise of obedience to the new Metropolitan. From 1965 to 1970 he studied Theology at The Catholic University of America and resided at St. Josaphat Seminary in Washington, DC. No other European country suffered as much as TUkraine, whose currency was devalued by more than 60 percent since its peak of 4.95 hrv per $1 in August 2008. In addition, the country’s industrial production fell by 31 percent in 2009. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko con- fronted the challenge of minimizing the crisis fallout, while at the same time campaigning for the 2010 presi- dential elections. Her critics attacked her for pursuing populist policies, such as increasing wages and hiring more government staff, when the state treasury was broke as early as the spring.
