Les Petits Poetes | 11am–1pm at the Betsy B Bar A showcase of elementary school poets from The Word Up! Youth Poetry Initiative, a year-round City of Sunrise program for youth self-expression.

Favorite Poem Project | 7pm–9pm at The Wolfsonian–FIU The Favorite Poem Project is dedicated to celebrating and documenting poetry’s role in the lives of Americans. Join us to celebrate the winners of Favorite Poem Project Florida with readings and screenings of Floridians reciting the poems they hold most dear.

Shadows of Home | 8pm–9:30pm at The New Tropic “Shadows of Home” is a concert combining music and poetry from composers and writers who have experienced exile from their homes, or imprisonment within their homelands during times of political and social turmoil.

Current by Jillian Mayer | 7:30pm–8:30pm at The Standard A guided meditation session at the Standard Spa Miami Beach pool for a group of twenty to thirty strangers at sunset. Participants equipped with robes, blacked-out goggles, and snorkels will be handed a noodle foat.

PET by Rudi Goblen | 8pm–10pm at The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse A theater work written and performed by Miami-based actor/writer/dancer, Rudi Goblen, PET is an interactive, physical one-man theatre piece set in a support group meeting for ex-lovers/serial monogamists and built from an array of interviews and shared experiences of the broken-hearted.

Poetry in the Park | 7pm–9pm at Soundscape Park Bring your blankets and picnic baskets to Miami Beach’s Soundscape Park for a Friday night reading under the stars featuring the nation’s frst Hispanic Poet Laureate, Juan Felipe Herrera. Vigía Inspired: Artist Book Workshop | 9:30am–3pm at Cuban Heritage Collection A half-day workshop led by Rolando Estévez, co-founder of Ediciones Vigía and master book artist who will teach participants how to create their own artist books.

Rhythm Arts Poetry | 6pm–9pm at Opa Locka ARC The Rhythm Arts Poetry (“RAP”) Festival is a celebration of the completion of an 8-week long poetry program for Opa Locka middle schoolers led by Shaneeka “Poetry” Thomas and commissioned by O, Miami.

Under the Infuence | 7pm at Art Deco Welcome Center Campbell McGrath presents his annual “Under the Infuence” reading, featuring guest stars Kevin Young and Melanie Almeder. As in previous years, each poet reads their own work, as well as work by the poets who have infuenced them.

Poetry Flotilla | 9am–1pm at Matheson Hammock The Poetry Flotilla invites you to join in a celebration of our city’s most despotic future. Come along for a ride down the canals that crisscross Miami and keep it above water.

The Golden Age of Islamic Poetry Workshop | 10am–12pm at Opa Locka ARC Created and led by poet Patrick Cox, the Golden Age of Islamic Poetry is a workshop that introduces participants to poetry classics of the Muslim world and invites them to try their hand at enduring forms from the Middle East.

Oscar Wilde: The Ballad of Reading Gaol | 6pm–8pm at The Freedom Tower Illustrations, never-before shown to the public, from The Ballad of Reading Gaol, a story about the execution of a fellow inmate at the HM Prison Reading.

Piano Slam 8 | 7:30pm–9:30pm at The Arsht Center A classical/hip-hop mash up featuring acclaimed pianists Maarten van Veen and Bobby Mitchell, mixing up Brahms, Beethoven, and Bach with the beats of DJ Brimstone 127 and the debut works of Miami’s hot young poets.

Cave Canem Chapbook Release Reading | 7:30pm–9:30pm at The Betsy Hotel O, Miami, The Betsy, and Cave Canem Foundation present the winner of the Inaugural Toi Derricote and Cornelius Eady Chapbook Prize, Rio Cortez. Cortez reads from her collection, I have learned to defne a feld as a space between mountains.

Building Bridges: Cuban Poetry | 7pm–9pm at Colonial Florida Church A ground-breaking reading and round-table discussion about the future of Cuban and Cuban-American literature, moderated by award-winning poets José Kozer and Reina María Rodriguez. This event is in Spanish. Sounds of the Times: The Desert Music | 7:30pm–9:30pm at New World Center New World Symphony and Seraphic Fire performance featuring music by Steve Reich and poetry by Williams Carlos Williams.

BFI and Perfect Nothing | 12pm–2pm at Matheson Hammock One in a series of workshops created by the Perfect Nothing Catalog to teach appreciation for nature, collaboration and creative sourcing of materials.

The Breakbeat Poets Performance | 4pm–6pm at RC Cola Plant The Breakbeat Poets (Haymarket, 2015) is the frst poetry anthology by and for the hip-hop generation. Editor Kevin Covall and poet Malcolm London lead a hip-hop poetry cipher in front of ’s iconic street murals.

The Breakbeat Poets Student Workshop | 3:30pm–5:30pm at RC Cola Plant Hip hop’s infuence on contemporary poetry is undeniable, but until the release of The Breakbeat Poets (Haymarket, 2015), it wasn’t properly documented. The editors of that best-selling book, including renowned spoken word poet Kevin Covall, lead a workshop.

Jai-Alai Magazine Release Reading | 7pm–8:30pm at MADE at the Citadel A reading and release party for the penultimate issue of Jai-Alai magazine, a journal dedicated to documenting Miami’s literary life.

Poetry Press Week Program #1 | 7:30pm–9:30pm at MANA Wynwood Poetry meets fashion at the biggest event of the month. Ten local poets present their work on a runway in Wynwood with assistance from artists, musicians, and dancers.

Love Letter to Hialeah | 11am–3pm at Milander Center Join the city of Hialeah, O, Miami, and Bookleggers in writing “zipode” poems and “love letters” to Hialeah on an 8’ x 8’ chalkboard, while enjoying food trucks and live music. The fnal piece, displaying unifed love for the city, will be featured at the Milander Center.

Luck be a Lyric Workshop | 1pm–3pm at History Miami Nick Vagnoni leads a poetry workshop inspired by HistoryMiami’s exhibition, Sinatra: An American Icon. In this poetry workshop, you will read poems about music, sound, place, and memory and roam the exhibit to trigger your own poems.

Poetic Consumption: Date Night w. Gertrude Stein | 7pm–10pm at Little Farm House A marriage of poetry, food, and community using the American writer Gertrude Stein as inspiration. Stein’s seminal book of lyrical prose, Tender Buttons, serves as the framework for a three-course poetic meal by Chef Evan Hanczor, from NY’s Egg.

Ode to Your Zip Code Finale Reading | 7pm–8:30pm at Join O, Miami and WLRN as we celebrate the winning entries for the 2016 “Ode to Your Zip Code” poetry contest.

Frank Bidart and Peg Boyers | 7pm–8:30pm at Vizcaya National Book Critics Circle Award-winning poet Frank Bidart headlines a magical evening of poetry at one of Miami’s most iconic locations, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
