Campers can choose to take a trip “off-camp” during their session. We offer two different types of trips: overnights are dedicated to Wilderness Leadership principles and offer a great introduction to camping and back packing. Day trips give campers an opportunity to experience some of northern ’s favorite landmarks, destinations and local establishments.

Overnights Big Wild (All Ages) Big Wild Overnight is an introductory level wilderness trip. Campers set up base camp in the Pigeon River Country or at Wilderness and head out for a 3-5 mile hike. They then return to base camp to cook dinner and make s’mores over the fire. The trip returns to AGQ in time for breakfast the next day.

Frodo (Ages 12-16) The Frodo Journey is a 5 Day/4 night backpacking trip in . Accompanied by two counselors, the group will cook over a fire, traverse , hills and forest. This program trip is an amazing way to become acquainted with the outdoors and learn about outdoor leadership. Campers must register before camp begins.

Day Trips Mackinaw (12-16) Each two week session, campers have the option to go to Mackinaw Island for a day of fun. The group will visit Historic Mackinaw, taste loads of fudge samples and enjoy a walk around the island. The cost of the trip varies depending on ferry prices.

Mystery (All Ages) Each week, 14-20 campers have the option to embark on a mystery trip. These trips will take campers to a Michigan landmark, state park or local establishment. Campers sign-up without knowing what the activity will be but quickly enjoy their time! Past trips have visited Kilwin’s chocolate factory, Petoskey State Park or Bill’s Farm Market. The cost of this trip is typically ranges from $10-$20. Registration for this trip takes place during sign-ups at camp.
