India to train 1800 Bangladeshi Civil Servants at Mussoorie. : indianembassyjakarta.com : IndianEmbJkt : IndiaInIndonesia : IndianEmbJkt 1 IN A FIRST, FERRY SERVICE TO CONNECT INDIA AND MALDIVES India and the Maldives have agreed to launch a passenger-cum-cargo ferry service between Kerala's Kochi and the Maldivian capital Male via Kulhudhuffushi atoll to strengthen connectivity between the two countries and boost tourism. The initiative was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day state visit to the Indian Ocean archipelago. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two sides for the establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea. Source : The Economic Times JAL SHAKTI ABHIYAN FOR WATER CONSERVATION LAUNCHED Union Jal Shakti Minister, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced the commencement of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan - a campaign for water conservation and water security. The campaign will run through citizen participation during the monsoon season, from 1st July, 2019 to 15th September, 2019. An additional Phase 2 will be run from 1st October, 2019 to 30th November, 2019 for States receiving the North East retreating monsoons. The focus of the campaign will be on water stressed districts and blocks. The Jal Shakti Minister said that the government aims at providing drinking water to every household on priority and in a sustainable manner. Source : Press Information Bureau INDIAN PROBOXER VAIBHAV YADAV WINS WBC ASIA TITLE Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav became the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia silver welterweight champion after defeating Thailand's Fahpetch Singmanassak in the title bout held in Pattaya, Thailand. Yadav, a cousin of Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan who has also turned pro now, clinched a third-round knockout over Singmanassak. The fight was conducted by the Asian Boxing Council and approved by the WBC. At a meeting of the General Assembly Ad Hoc Committee for Voluntary Contributions to United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador K Nagaraj Naidu said the Government of India has increased its annual financial contribution fourfold to the UNRWA core budget, from USD 1.25 million in 2016 to USD 5 million in 2018. Source : Business Standard INDIA TO TRAIN 1800 BANGLADESHI CIVIL SERVANTS AT MUSSOORIE Eighteen hundred Bangladeshi mid-career civil servants will be trained at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in Mussoorie between 2019-2025. The first batch of 30 civil servants left for a two-week long training programme in Mussoorie. Acting High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Bishwadip Dey said that he hopes that civil servants of India and Bangladesh knowing each other would help foster deeper ties between the two countries. The Indian delegation was led by Mr. Sanjiv Arora, Secretary [Consular, Passport & Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs], Ministry of External Affairs, while the Indonesian delegation was led by Dr. Andri Hadi, Director General for Protocol and Consular Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia. 2. The 1st Consular Dialogue was held in the framework of the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership [CSP] established during the historic visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi to Indonesia in May 2018. 3. The discussions were held in a highly friendly and constructive spirit, covering wide ranging issues pertaining to consular, immigration, visas and related issues of mutual interest. During the interaction, Secretary [CPV & OIA] requested the Indonesian side, inter alia, to take necessary measures urgently to permit Indian crew, who have been detained on board commercial vessels, to return to India. He handed over an aide memoire to the Director General Dr. Andri Hadi, who assured to accord this matter high priority in view of humanitarian aspect and excellent bilateral relations. 5. The Dialogue also focussed on furthering mechanisms to ensure well being and welfare of Indian and Indonesian nationals residing in and visiting each other’s countries; both sides arrived at a common understanding on steps to be taken in this direction. Discussions also pertained to ensuring the well being of Indian and Indonesian prisoners and facilitating mechanisms to ensure smooth and regular consular access. 6. Both delegations expressed confidence that their deliberations would make a positive contribution in further strengthening the multi-dimensional people-to-people contacts and exchanges to the mutual benefit of both countries. They agreed to regularly convene the Consular Dialogue alternately in India and Indonesia.
