    Capitol Area Council TEXAS HERITAGE TRAIL Boy Scouts of America TRAIL REQUIREMENTS: 1. There should be at least one adult for each 10 hikers. A group must have an adult leader at all times on the trail. The Boy Scouts of America policy requires two adult leaders on all Scout trips and tours. 2. Groups should stay together while on the hike. (Large groups may be divided into several groups.) 3. Upon completion of the trail the group leader should send an Application for Trail Awards with the required fee for each hiker to the Capitol Area Council Center. (Only one patch for each participant.) The awards will be mailed or furnished as requested by the group leader. Note: All of Part One must be hiked and all points (1-15) must be visited. Part Two is optional. HIKER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Any registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, or other civic youth group may hike the trail. 2. Meet all Trail requirements while on the hike. 3. The correct Scout uniform should be worn while on the trail. Some article (T-shirt, armband, etc) should identify other groups. 4. Each hiker must visit the historical sites, participate in all of his/her group’s activities, and answer the “On the Trail Quiz” to the satisfaction of his/her leader. President Connie Hicks led the members through a brief business meeting, highlighting the charter members of PBKAAGA who were able to be present: Lissa Anderson, Kay Braziel, Don Flournoy, Patricia Hall, Martha McKay Jones, Barbara Myers, Joyce Pulich, Ken Ralls, and Beverly Shivers. The keynote speaker, Austin Ligon, gave an inspiring talk about how his liberal arts education prepared him for very different phases of his career - work as a health economist, an independent financial consultant, a senior consultant at Boston Consulting Group, a strategic planner at the Marriott Corporation, a founder of CarMax, and in his current role as an angel investor with a number of interesting startups, including Redfin. His love of learning and his broad background served him well in his wide-ranging career. Established in 1960, this juried program celebrates the hard work and visionary approaches of those preserving Austin’s unique architectural, cultural, and environmental heritage. This is our largest group of award-winners yet, showing that preservation is alive and well in Austin, and achieved every day through the commitment and investment of Austinites citywide. These eighteen recipients represent preservation efforts of all of types and scales, and we’re so excited to give them the recognition they deserve. Our 58th Annual Preservation Merit Awards Celebration at the Friday, October 19, 2018 Driskill Hotel will be on Friday, October 19!
