UTAH CROWNED PAC-12 CHAMPION UTAH performed well in a closely contested meet to come out on top as the 2014 Pac-12 Gymnastics Champions. The Utes scored 197.925 with STANFORD following in second with a team score of 197.175. rallied late in the second session of the meet to overcome UCLA to take third with a team total of 196.550. All eight Pac-12 teams will advance to regionals and are spread out across 5 different sites. This is the second consecutive year that the Pac-12 has had all of its teams selected for regional competition. Regionals will commence on Saturday April 5th with various start times. The teams that advance will compete at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on April 18-20.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2014 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced Monday by the NCAA. All eight Pac-12 teams were selected to advance to the regionals and are spread out across five different sites. All regionals will be conducted on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

UTAH was able to clinch the lone No. 1 seed in the Pac-12 and will be head to the Fayetteville Regional (Host Arkansas), with No. 2 seed UCLA and No. 4 seed ARIZONA STATE. They are joined by host Arkansas, Utah State and UC Davis. Arizona State, UCLA and Pac-12 Cham- pion Utah will start competition at 4 p.m. CT.

No. 2 STANFORD and No. 4 ARIZONA will be traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana against host No. 1 LSU. Stanford was the runner-up at the 2014 Pac-12 Gymnastics Championships. Other teams participating in the regional are No. 3 Auburn, No. 5 Kent State and No. 6 Iowa State. The Cardinal and Wildcats ate set to begin competition at 4 p.m. CT.

The Minneapolis Regional hosted by Minnesota will showcase the Golden Bears of CALIFORNIA. Cal garnered the No. 4 seed and will be the lone Pac-12 team in Minnesota. The No. 1 seed in the Minneapolis Regional went to Oklahoma with No. 2 Illinois, host No. 3 Minnesota, No 5 Utah State, and No. 6 Utah State rounding out the competition which is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT.

No. 6 seed WASHINGTON will host the Seattle Regional. The Huskies are the only Pac-12 team that will serve as host this year. No. 1 seed Alabama, Nebraska, Boise State, Denver, and BYU will also be participating in the northwest regional. Competition will begin at 4 p.m. PT.

Lastly, OREGON STATE will compete in the University Park Regional where they will face off with the No. 1 seed Florida, host Penn. State, New Hampshire, Kentucky and Maryland. The Beavers are set to start competition at 4 p.m. ET.

The other regional site without a Pac-12 team include the Athens Regional (Host: Georgia). The top two teams and top two all-around com- petitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Birmingham, Ala. April 18-20, hosted by the University of Alabama and the Alabama Sports Foundation.

In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.

BERKELEY, Calif. - UTAH claimed the 2014 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championship for the first time since they joined the Pac-12 in Haas Pavilion on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. The Utes recorded their second highest total of the season with a 197.925 to capture first place. STANFORD came in second with a total of 197.175, while CALIFORNIA took third with a 196.550.

UCLA rounded out the top half with a 196.525, while OREGON STATE took home fifth with a 196.275. ARIZONA placed sixth earning a 196.250, and ARIZONA STATE (195.500) and WASHINGTON (195.125) took home seventh and eighth place, respectively.

The top four seeds entering the Pac-12 Championships competed in the first session, leaving host California, Arizona, Arizona State and Washington to compete for the title in the later session. Each of the four schools competing in session two tried to make their mark in the first event, knowing that they needed to put forth their best efforts to have a shot at the title. After the first routine, California held the top spot with a vault total of 49.150. Arizona followed recording a 48.700 on bars with Arizona State close behind with a 48.625 on beam. Washington was able to come off of a tough routine on floor and totaled a 48.275 on the event to take fourth.

Team standings for the second session saw little change after the second routine of the evening as the Golden Bears held on to their lead with a score of 49.075 on bars for a total of 98.225. Arizona State (97.875) was able to gain ground on California as they recorded a team score of 49.250 on floor, passing Arizona (97.725). The Wildcats fell to third after scoring 49.025 on beam. Washington sits at fourth with 48.750 on vault and a team total of 97.025.

Heading into the final rotation of the evening, the standings for the second session stayed the same with California taking the commanding lead with a team score of 147.500. Cal earned a score of 49.275 on beam. The Sun Devils were close behind with a team total of 147.025 and a vault score of 49.150. Arizona (146.825) and Washington (145.975) were third and fourth entering the final rotation, respectively. The fourth and final rotation of the day was highlighted by the Golden Bears of California as they climbed the standings to finish third overall with a team total of 196.550. The Utes, who finished first in the first session, were able to celebrate their first Pac-12 Conference title as the final rotation came to a close.

In a voting by the Conference coaches, UTAH junior Tory Wilson has been named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year. STANFORD’s freshman Nicolette McNair has been named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. For the first time, Utah’s co-head coaches Greg and Megan Marsden were named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year. This is the first time a Utah head coach has been named the Coach of the Year in gym- nastics since Utah joined the Pac-12 Conference in 2010. Utah’s Georgia Dabritz is named the Special Performer of the Year. The Gymnast of the Year and Coach of the Year awards were started in 1987, the Freshman of the Year was added in 2000 and the Specialist of the Year honor was added last year.

SESSION ONE RECAP BERKELEY, Calif. - The 2014 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships kicked off this afternoon with top seeds No. 1 UTAH, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 STANFORD and defending champion No. 4 OREGON STATE competing in the first session in Haas Pavilion on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley.

Utah led after the first rotation with a 49.400 with Stanford close behind in second with a 49.350. Oregon State stood in third place (49.050), with UCLA coming in at fourth (49.000). After the second rotation, the Utes pulled away from the competition on bars with a score of 49.600. Stanford finished with 48.975 on floor and UCLA recorded 49.300 on beam to follow in the second and third spots, respectively. Oregon State was in fourth place with a score of 48.875 on vault. Utah stayed in first going into the final rotation earning 49.275 on beam with a total score of 148.725. Stanford scored 49.400 on vault to total 147.725 after three events to maintain their lead over UCLA (147.325). Defending Pac- 12 champion Oregon State gained momentum on the with a team score of 49.200, but still trailed with a total of 147.125.

The Utes came out on top of session one with a final score of 197.925. Stanford earned a 197.175, claiming the second-highest score of the session. UCLA and Oregon State followed behind totaling a 196.525 and 196.275, respectively.

At the conclusion of the first session, the Utes took the top spots on four of the five events with Tory Wilson currently in first in the all-around with a score of 39.450. Utah’s Georgia Dabritz sits in first on the vault with a 9.950 and put forth a spectacular routine to claim the top spot on bars with a perfect 10. Dabritz and Nansy Damianova hold the top spots on floor, with both gymnasts recording a 9.950. UCLA’s Samantha Peszek is first on beam with 9.925 after the first session.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2014 All-Pac-12 Gymnastics team was announced on Wednesday by Commissioner Larry Scott. The All-Pac-12 team is determined by a combination of 50 percent regional qualifying score (entire season composite) and 50 percent Con- ference Championship score. The All-Conference team consists of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event who are not among the all-around honorees. The Pac-12 second team in a ten member team that consists of the top two all-arounders who were not named to the first team (as all-arounders or in an event), after such the top two gymnasts from each event who were not yet named to the first team or the second team in the are selected to the second team.
