US 85 MOATFIELD DRIVE Grade 6 Musicians Evening the event: On February 1st, the Prep School Music Department hosted our 2nd annual Grade 6 Musicians Evening – an exciting idea created by the music department that would allow our youngest members of the programme to demonstrate their ability as both artists and teachers.

the concept: Our Grade 6 musicians would invite their parents to become the students while they became the teachers. They would perform for their parents and teach them how to play a few notes. They even provided their parents a report card to demonstrate their progress.

Don’t worry, Parents, this was a “for learning” assessment!

the evidence: As music teachers, we witnessed some incredible things happening. Parents were able to witness their children’s knowledge and abilities. More importantly, they realized exactly what it takes to create sound from nothing. Music Competition: As many parents commented after the evening was over, “This was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, and my child does this every day”. In addition, the students gained a sense of pride that they were able to get their mothers and fathers to create sound and some even played “We Will Rock You” Success by Queen. CAN YOU SAY PARENTS Our Prep and Upper School Music programmes entered the BAND?! Greater Kiwanis Music Festival the results: Watching parents and their children interact in this amazing Prep Jazz Band – Gold way, allowing parents the opportunity to Prep Concert Band – Gold appreciate what it takes to make music, and Upper School Symphonic Band – Gold having students gain an appreciation for teaching, are all immeasurable benefits. Add the fun, laughter, sense Upper School Wind Ensemble – Silver of accomplishment, and pure joy on the faces of BVG families and Upper School Clarinet Quartet – Gold you have great success!

We, the BVG musicians and music teachers, would like to say more event photos at Dads. You all deserve a great round of applause!
