The new award mile structure starts August 1

We’re making changes to the AAdvantage program

In November 2015, we announced that we are making changes to the AAdvantage® program so it’s rewarding for all members while giving our best customers access to our most exclusive benefits. Here’s what’s coming next:

Earning award miles

As we adjust to the competitive landscape, beginning August 1, 2016, travelers will earn miles based on how much they spend with us. Elite members will earn at even higher rates.

Elite status level Miles earned per USD spent† AAdvantage® member 5

Gold 7 (40% bonus) Platinum 8 (60% bonus) Executive Platinum 11 (120% bonus) † base fare plus carrier-imposed fees, excluding any government-imposed taxes and fees

Elite status in 2017 and beyond On January 1, 2017, we’ll add a new elite status level and adjust qualification requirements. We’ll also make updates to upgrades later in 2017.

Introducing AAdvantage® Platinum Pro We’re excited to introduce an additional elite level, AAdvantage® Platinum Pro. Members can qualify for Platinum Pro starting in 2017.

Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs)

 Starting January 1, we’ll add Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) to our elite-qualification requirements. Travelers will earn 1 EQD for every U.S. dollar spent on eligible flights (base fare plus carrier-imposed fees, excluding any government-imposed taxes and fees).  Members can earn elite status by reaching the EQD threshold, and either the Elite Qualifying Mile (EQM) or Elite Qualifying Segment (EQS) threshold.

Upgrades Later in 2017, we’ll make changes to upgrade windows and prioritization. Upgrade priority will be based on a 12- month rolling EQD total, sorted by elite status level.

We'll continue to keep you updated as we implement these changes. Thank you for your business.
