On two occasions Ferguson invested in her yearlings. In 2012 he purchased a Raven's Pass colt, and yesterday, at Goffs' November foal sale's final session, he bought a Dubawi weanling whose €1.1 million ($1,180,850) price was an Irish record for a male weanling. While the price was short of Ireland's €1.8 million ($2,259,720) foal record for a Frankel filly who changed hands at Goffs last year, it was undoubtedly an upbeat note at a sale that showed declines in all the key figures. Last year's event set across-the-board records, but this year's gross figure of €25,847,500 ($27.7 million) fell 6.0% short, the average of €31,950 ($34,298) represented a 16% decline, while the median dropped 22% to €18,000 ($19,323). No less worryingly, the clearance rate tumbled to 77% from last year's 85%. Because foal production in Ireland is increasing, this sale staged an additional session. The 2015 fig- ures, however, suggest the saturation point has been reached.BH BLOOD-HORSE DAILY Download the FREE smartphone app PAGE 1 OF 18 Goffs Bloodstock Sales 2015 November Foal Sale, Day 5 LATEST HEADLINES FROM BLOODHORSE.COM Top Hips BRITISH STAYER RED CADEAUX EUTHANIZED Hip Sex, Sire—Dam Sale Price Three-time Melbourne Cup (Aus-I) runner-up 1129 c, wlg, Dubawi (IRE)—Nightime (IRE) $1,180,850 and global fan favorite Red Cadeaux has been Buyer: John Ferguson Bloodstock euthanized because of complications from the Consignor: The Castlebridge Consignment injury he suffered Nov. 3 while making his fifth 1182 c, wlg, Galileo (IRE)—Sogno Verde (IRE) $509,913 appearance in the race. Liviakis sold Whitmore to Robert LaPenta, Harry Rosenblum, and Southern Springs Stables. The Pleasantly Perfect gelding broke his maiden im- pressively at first asking Nov. 6. Liviakis, who has 12 broodmares boarded be- tween War Horse Place and Hill 'n' Dale, believes the most effective broodmare sires are Smart Strike and Arch. Japan-based Lovely Day is the expected race favorite. "I've been hearing that in Europe, they're saying the Japanese horses aren't very good this season," said Lovely Day's trainer Yasutoshi Ikee. BH UNCERTAINTY LINGERS over the past 10 years; in 2014 it stood at $33 million ON PA FUNDING PLAN for all six tracks in Pennsylvania. The funding shortfall is estimated at about $10 million. BH By Tom LaMarra ennsylvania lawmakers are scheduled—and that's Pthe operative word—Nov. 23 to review language for legislation that would create a stable funding mechanism for regulating the state's horse racing. The agenda for a meeting of the House Agricul- ture and Rural Affairs Committee lists discussion of Senate Bill 352, which is basically a rewrite of a decades-old pari-mutuel law. The bill, which was introduced in June but never left committee, covers everything from pari-mutuel tax rates to funding for marketing to having a single racing commission rather than one each for Thoroughbreds and Stand- ardbreds.
