Irish Film 2015 / Production Catalogue IRISH FILM 2015 / PRODUCTION CATALOGUE WWW.THISISIRISHFILM.IE WWW.IRISHFILMBOARD.IE CHAIRMAN’S NOTE I am delighted that my first full year as Chairman of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) has been one of growth and continued success for Irish creative talent and for the Irish film, television and animation industry. With the support of the IFB, the hard work and creative endeavours of Irish talent in front and behind the camera has been rewarded with both local and international recognition and awards. As the development agency for film, television and animation in Ireland, the IFB is committed to supporting Irish talent, creativity and enterprise. In conjunction with the Irish Government’s continued support for the industry with the advent of the new film and television tax credit in 2015, the Board are focused on the future evolution of Board Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board. With this in mind, we have begun the consultation process on a new Five Year Strategic Plan for the agency, which will focus on the future goals for the agency itself, the development of the industry overall and the outcomes the IFB aims to deliver for Irish creative talent, Irish and international audiences and the Irish digital economy. With the publication of the new strategy document in 2015, we hope to ensure that the IFB continues to provide a strong foundation for the making of film, television and animation in Ireland. HBO PREMIERES THE THIRD SEASON OF GAME OF THRONES The new season will premiere simultaneously with the United States on March 31st Miami, FL, March 18, 2013 – The battle for the Iron Throne among the families who rule the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros continues in the third season of the HBO original series, Game of Thrones. Winner of two Emmys® 2011 and six Golden Globes® 2012, the series is based on the famous fantasy books “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. HBO Latin America will premiere the third season simultaneously with the United States on March 31st. Many of the events that occurred in the first two seasons will culminate violently, with several of the main characters confronting their destinies. But new challengers for the Iron Throne rise from the most unexpected places. Characters old and new must navigate the demands of family, honor, ambition, love and – above all – survival, as the Westeros civil war rages into autumn. The Lannisters hold absolute dominion over King’s Landing after repelling Stannis Baratheon’s forces, yet Robb Stark –King of the North– still controls much of the South, having yet to lose a battle. In the Far North, Mance Rayder (new character portrayed by Ciaran Hinds) has united the wildlings into the largest army Westeros has ever seen. Only the Night’s Watch stands between him and the Seven Kingdoms. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen – reunited with her three growing dragons – ventures into Slaver’s Bay in search of ships to take her home and allies to conquer it.

Centering on the reminiscences of Rose McNulty, a woman who has spent over fifty years in state institutions, The Secret Scripture is a deeply moving story of love lost and redeemed, against the backdrop of an emerging Irish state in which female sexuality and independence unsettles the colluding patriarchies of church and nationalist politics. Demonstrating Sheridan’s trademark skill with actors, his profound sense of story, and depth of feeling for Irish social history, The Secret Scripture marks a return to personal themes for the writer-director as well as a reunion with producer Noel Pearson, almost a quarter of a century after their breakout success with My Left Foot.

  • An Interview with Andrew Davies
EnterText 1.2 PETER SMITH “The Script is Looking Good”: an interview with Andrew Davies PS Before coming to talk to you, I asked my colleagues what they would most like to ask you, and more than one wanted to know how tight a brief a writer tends to be given when adapting for TV or cinema. AD Right – well, usually when I start something, it’s – first of all, it’s either going to be a one-off or it’s going to be an episode. If it’s for television and it’s going to be in episodes, usually I’m given, or we work out by mutual agreement, the number of episodes that would be best to do this kind of thing in – and when I say “we”, usually I’m working with the producer or it’s someone higher up like an executive producer. Smith: Interview with Andrew Davies 157 EnterText 1.2 For instance, I do a lot of work with the woman who’s Head of Drama at the BBC. This is one of the good things about having been around for a long time; I knew her when she was a script editor. She was a very good script editor, and I suppose what I’m working round to is there’s not usually a lot of disagreement about it. If she says “I think it would make three” or “I think it would make four” or whatever it is, I usually think she’s right. Occasionally, you find that there’s a difference, but generally people will go with what I say these days.
