CARRICK CASTLE COMMUNITY TRUST

MINUTES OF DIRECTORS MEETING

Held in Village Hall

Wednesday 29th January 2020

Present: Jean Murray (Chair), Jai Cowper-Smith, Cheryl Craik, Gordon Craik, Arthur Fairfull, Graham Mathie, Tom Murray, Catherine Oliver

Declarations of interest: None

Approval of minutes of meeting of 8th January 2020: Approved by Graham Mathie, seconded by Jai Cowper-Smith.

Matters arising: Regarding the application to Trust for funding, Jean reported that a more detailed costing was required, to enable the application to be scored.

Treasurer’s report: Tom reported that the bank balance from the most recent statement was £13,484, with £95 monies still outstanding from the Christmas Fair auction.

Community Hub land/facility acquisition: - The directors look forward to the upcoming AGM, at which the proposal for the facility will be presented, and Community feedback and support sought on their most important uses for the building. - Arthur is continuing to refine the AGM presentation, and will follow up with other directors as needed prior to review at the next directors meeting. - Gordon agreed to approach SSE for costings regarding the electricity connection. Objectives, Articles of Association, Charitable status: - Arthur and Gordon had gone through the Articles of Association in detail, copying Carrick-specific items from our original Articles into the new DTAS-supported template to create a new, legislation- compliant draft. This draft was gone through in detail as the key action item of the present meeting, and some further tweaks made by the directors. The directors then approved the resulting document, which Arthur will now forward back to DTAS for comment [now done] – with the objective of having formal updated Articles available for review and adoption at the upcoming AGM/EGM. This will be an important foundational step in terms of potential future funding sources in particular, as we continue to draw on the expertise and experience available from DTAS. Arrangements for AGM/EGM: - The AGM/EGM is confirmed as Tuesday 24th March in Lochgoilhead Hall, starting at 7 pm. - It was agreed that the formal invitation and supporting documentation would again be delivered in hard copy form – and further that the package should include the recently-written local information document. This combined package will be delivered to every house in Carrick, and will serve also to inform and welcome the several new residents to the village.

Events: - In the review (carried over from last month) of the Christmas Fair, it was reiterated that both the attendee feedback and the financial results had been very good, especially given the poor weather on the day. (There was some discussion as to whether we were “competing with ourselves” between the excellent cakes included with the entrance price and the dedicated baking stall - there may be scope for fine-tuning here, but overall the emphasis on providing good value to attendees was evidently successful.) - The indoor boot sale was confirmed for Saturday 23rd May in Lochgoilhead Village Hall, during the late May bank holiday weekend as last year. Tables will again be £10 each, and those wishing to take a table are asked to contact Jean Murray. Other details will again include: o Free entry o £1 for tea or coffee, with a biscuit o Plant stall o Raffle

Any other business: (i) Proposed wind farm Arthur provided a brief report on the recent public meeting in Lochgoilhead concerning the proposed windfarm development above Strachur: https://www.creagdhubhwindfarm.co.uk/ Feedback had already been circulated to Community members by e-mail, but to summarise: - The proposal is for 9 turbines in the glen above Succoth (in turn above Strachur). - The developers emphasised efforts to minimise visual impact. The glen is largely shielded by surrounding hills, and to see the turbines from the Goil area one would have to climb the hills. - The main opportunity for local income would be via the community payback scheme, but conversations have yet to start re what the ratios might be between Strachur and Loch Goil. - It is likely to be 5 (minimum) to 10 years before the wind farm is built and starts producing, if it gets all the necessary approvals. - The planning application and supporting documentation is now live here: https://publicaccess.argyll-bute.gov.uk/online- applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=Q2025ECHLI400&activeTab=summary

(ii) Supporting the Police Cadets Following the assistance provided by the Police Cadets at last year’s Carrick Fayre, the Trust was approached regarding help sponsor the cadets in an upcoming fund-raising walk from Ardentinny to Carrick. It was agreed to provide a £50 contribution.

Date of Next Meeting: The next meeting, the “February” meeting, will be held on Tuesday 3rd March, 2020, at 7:30 pm.
