The Sydney Morning Herald June 2, 2014 GAGOSIAN GALLERY Turner Prize winner Douglas Gordon targets Melbourne Andrew Stephens Douglas Gordon is a leading Scottish artist, having his first major show at ACCA. Photo: Jason South As a youngster, Douglas Gordon was forbidden from getting tattoos, and he wasn’t allowed to watch The Exorcist. ‘‘Look what happened!’’ he cries. Here he is, a Scotsman with tatts all over the place and an exhibition featuring that head-turning piece of cinema projected onto a huge scrim, along with another film, The Song of Bernadette. Linda Blair spouting obscenities is one of the first things we might see when entering this voluptuous survey of Gordon’s work - an exhibition so dense that one room features an eye- shattering 101 television sets, all showing various films he has made over the past couple of decades. It was a work that had its first iteration more than a decade ago when he had to exhibit in a small room: rather than show one filmed work, he gathered a huge batch of tellies and showed the lot. He has been adding to it since. To make their way to this extraordinary TV lounge at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, visitors must first pass through other challenging spaces, including a hall of mirrors. The room’s vertical surfaces brim with mirrors, large and small, and photographs of various sizes. There are 180 mirrors and 180 images arranged around the 360-degrees of the room, and the atmosphere is much like the artist himself: intense, humorous, full of ideas, and unpretentiously happy to be human, warts and all.

FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue? What aspects should people put more effort on and what factors should people focus on when they try to higher the revenue of a movie? http://localhost:8888/nbconvert/html/Desktop/MyProjects/Pr_085/FinalProject.ipynb?download=false Page 1 of 62 FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM Hypothesis: We predict that the following factors contribute the most to movie revenue.

It is a Warner Brothers film that was released in 1973 and directed by William Friedkin. It was produced and written by William Peter Blatty. The Exorcist stars Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil (an actress and single mother), Jason Miller as Father Karras and Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil (the possessed little girl). The voice of possessed Regan was played by Mercedes McCambridge, who acted frequently on the radio (The Exorcist 1973). The Exorcist was nominated for Best Cinematography, but won Best Picture, and Best Director. The movie also won Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, and much more. This classic horror film is rated R because not only is it extremely scary, but it is filled with swearing, sexual talk, sexual images and actions, violence and much more (Movies: The Exorcist 1973).

  • Enfant Diabolique in International Cinema
Enfant Diabolique in International Cinema By Kenneth Tan Fall 1996 Issue of KINEMA THE PRESENCE OF HORROR GENRE genre at the Singapore International Film Festival 1996 inspired these recollections: John Carpenter’s remake of the seminal Village of the Damned featured in this year’s Singapore Festival of Arts All-Night Horrorthon, is a chilling account of what happens when a small community of sinister children, endowed with telepathic and destructive powers, gradually unfolds evil plans for world domination. In this current age of contemporary film-making technology, the film’s sound and special effects are superb, but that isn’t what makes the film frightening. It is the notion of innocent, ”helpless” children, rising above the domination that parents, teachers and adults at large have traditionally exerted over them, turning on the conventional authority figures, threatening them, violating them, and ultimately triumphing over them. This is the theme of the enfant diabolique, or diabolical child, which has found expression and gained favour in numerous films made all over the world. It is a sub-category of the horror genre, and its lasting appeallies in this massaging of a basic fear -- just like the fear of animals going berserk and turning on their masters, which was the platform for the Jaws-inspired disaster epics of the seventies. This article presents and compares various films in which the theme of the ”enfant diabolique” hasbeen explored. One of the best-known titles in this category must surely be The Omen (together with the three sequels that it spawned). The purest exemplar of the diabolical kid is the devil child -- Satan incarnate, coming into the mortal world to conquer good and take over humanity.

The traditional reading of horror films focuses primarily on the negative treatment of women. However, there are some moments of resistance that allow for a strong female representation. As the horror film is a genre that targets primarily the youth market, some of these women step beyond the traditional cannon fodder and emerge as feminist role models. Over time the ways and means by which women stepped out of the shadows in the horror genre changed. These changes can in part be traced to the larger societal movements of their era, including Second and Third Wave Feminism.
