Sportief succes was er wederom voor de heren rolstoelbasketballers die tijdens het Europees kampioenschap een prachtige zilveren medaille behaalden. Het nationale herenteam wachtte in het kader van de EK-kwalificatie echter nog steeds op de eerste overwinning. De finales van de Nederlandse competities waren ongekend spannend. Zowel in de dames- als heren eredivisie werd de titelstrijd pas in de laatste wedstrijd van de playoffs beslist. Het afgelopen seizoen stond ook in het teken van een directiewisseling.

    Jaarverslag 2008 De NBB is lidorganisatie van NOC*NSF, FIBA en IWBF - 0 - VOORWOORD De afgelopen jaren waren voor de Nederlandse Basketball Bond roerige tijden, het jaar 2008 was daarop geen uitzondering. Tal van gebeurtenissen volgden elkaar op, die niet hebben bijgedragen aan een verdere ontwikkeling van de organisatie in zijn geheel, in de richting die men voor ogen had. Onderdeel hiervan waren bijvoorbeeld het wegvallen van de directie, het vertrek van de Financieel Manager, de noodzaak om de Algemene Vergadering uit te stellen en de financieel lastige situatie. Er waren echter ook zaken die positief opvielen, zoals de groei van Basketball Unites! Peanut Basketball, Dunkers Kids Club, het NJK finale weekend in Almere Topsportcentrum, de opgaande lijn in de ranking van bijna alle jeugdteams, deelname aan de Paralympics door het Nationale Dames Rollersteam, zaken die uitgebreid in dit jaarverslag aan de orde komen. Het is van belang om deze positieve zaken vast te houden en als basis te zien voor de komende jaren en het basketball in Nederland terug te brengen op een vooraanstaande plaats binnen de sportwereld. Wereldwijd is basketball een “grote” sport met veel potentie, die niet alleen de jeugd aanspreekt en zodoende meer belangstelling verdient. Belangrijk aspect hierbij is een actueel maatschappelijk thema als integratie, hierbij speelt (street)basketball een steeds grotere rol, die mede door de overheid wordt gepromoot en gesubsidieerd en waarmee de medewerkers van Basketball Unites! druk zijn. In de komende jaren kunnen dat veel alternatieve lidmaatschappen opleveren, die in een later stadium mogelijk doorstromen naar de clubs. Dit is een van de onderwerpen waaraan consequent moet worden gewerkt en waarbij wij verenigingen ondersteuning kunnen bieden.
