BULL RUN REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB President’s The Bridge - Issue 2019-08 Corner August 2019 Ladies ~ I hope you are all having a wonderful summer with friends and families, on vacations and at home! I know I have been sending you lots of emails, but hopefully you can discern which ones are of interest to you from the Subject Line. Oh, and by the way, it is going to get worse There are many important things coming up in the next couple of months: August 2 – Wine Tasting at Effingham Manor – bring friends and other prospective members. August 15 - our evening at the PW County Fair – we need volunteers to talk with voters, register new voters, hand out balloons, etc. September 19 - Membership Meeting – place and speaker to be announced. However, we will be having an important business meeting to vote on donations for our candidates and elect a Nominating Committee for our 2020 Officers. If you would like to serve on the Committee, please ask someone to nominate you. You may not serve on the Committee for more than two years in a row. Additionally, you may not nominate someone without their consent (so if someone isn’t going to be at the meeting, talk to her beforehand). Jan is trying to compile contact information for each campaign, and I am compiling a list of various ongoing volunteer opportunities for each campaign. I will send this list out periodically with updates and additions. The Subject Line will be “Campaign Volunteer Activities.” I just sent a summary of our campaign volunteer activities to VFRW, and they were blown away by all the things we are doing! I couldn’t be prouder of our Club – everyone steps in and steps up!!! So once again, Thank You for all that you are doing! Don’t forget to take pictures and send them to Jan and me ([email protected] and [email protected]. As always if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. REPUBLICAN WOMEN ROCK!!! Meg August is… the eighth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendar, but was originally the fifth of seven months. In the Roman empire, August had 30 days and was the sixth of ten months, although its originally named was Sextilis, (meaning “sixth month”). Under King Numa Pompilius, an early Roman ruler who is credited with formulating the religious calendar, the month was changed from 30 days to 29. Augustus Caesar later renamed it after himself, and added two extra days so that it would be equal in length to July which was named for Julius Caesar. August’s flower is the gladiolus, and its’ birthstone is the peridot. August is best known for “the dog days of Summer” - meaning the 40 days from July 3 to August 11. Originally, the “dog days” began when Sirius, “the Dog Star” rose at sunrise. Ancient people sacrificed a brown dog at the start of “the dog days,” believing that the hot sultry weather was the result of Sirius’ anger. -- ---------------- Sunday------ Monday --- - Tuesday--- - Wednesday- Thursday --- Friday-- - Saturday July 28 July 29 July 30 July 31 1 2 3 2 Effingham African American Manor Wine Heritage Festival Tasting Alyson 11AM-6PM Blood and Metz Drive National Jennifer C School 9:3 0-2:30 Dar-Al-Noor Girlfriends Islamic Center Day 5404 Hoadley Rd 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Friendship Day Prince Executive & William US Coast Committee County Guard Day Fair Dottie Begins Martha Meeting (Wednesday 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 Eid-ul-Adha BRRWC to man VJ Day GOP booth at Prince And PW County William Fair 5PM-10 Left County Middle Child’s Day Handers’ Fair Newsletter Day JenniferrP Ends Deadline 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 Haymarket Music Fest Senior Haymarket Gail Citizens’ Park Aug 24, 2PM-8PM Day 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 PWC Republican Committee Meeting (Monday) Please Note Earlier Time!
