And this year at the heart of the homily some words from Saint John Vianney:

“Humility is to the various virtues what the chain is to the Rosary; take away the chain and the beads are scattered. Remove humility and all virtues vanish.”

As a constituency within the we are having to learn to be more humble, more on the edge and it’s proving to be a liberating experience. Although we have to remain vigilant, most of the politicking is done and the big decisions made. And we have been given generous space and resource, NEW FACES together with a fair amount of good will, to demonstrate that we are a living authentic expression of with a Page 5 huge amounts to offer for the mission and renewal of the Church.

We may be scattered across the country and in many places our can feel isolated but there are several chains that link us and help us in our belonging. Firstly, we are a praying community, centred around the Mass and celebrating the sacraments with what I was proudly brought up to understand as ‘full catholic privilege’. We actually like going to church, we enjoy rich and textured worship and we daily pray for one another. All of which embeds the beads and definitely strengthens the chain.

Generation Hope: Into God’s Future with Mary

For the first time in years, the 2018 Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage was blessed with glorious sunshine and nearly 600 young pilgrims and their leaders gathered for five days of lively worship and teaching, prayer and devotion mixed with fun activities and the chance to make new friends in England’s Nazareth.

Throughout 2018, pilgrims to Walsingham have been reflecting on the theme of ‘Mary, Star of Hope’, and this inspired the theme for the Youth Pilgrimage of ‘Generation Hope: Into God’s Future with Mary’

Bishop Philip North and his teaching team helped pilgrims to reflect on the hope we are given through faith in Jesus Christ, and how Mary helps us by her example and prayers to place our hope and trust in God. “Do not be afraid” are the words spoken to Mary by the angel, and Bishop Philip reminded us that they are words we hear again and again in the Bible. Christians can look to the future with hope, knowing that God is with us and that his love will never let us go.
