URBAN NEST

URBAN NEST

Crafted from prefabricated wood panels, this versatile DADU serves as garage /workshop and/or home. The 600 SF footprint NEST sits against the rear setback of standard 4,000/5,000 SF lots with a 200 SF above. Designed for PassiveHaus detailing, NEST is a highly sustainable, lower-carbon built home.

A garage entry is vehicular entry or an outdoor eating/living area - raising garage door for shelter. As garage, NEST becomes work- shop, with sleeping area above. The main entry can be the garage, or, side door facing the primary home connecting visually.

Options include: larger 800 SF footprint; master bed area replacing entry door area; different NEST geometries. Construction options include prefabricated cross-laminated-timber panels or building light-wood frame. Both include inexpensive slab-on-grade and grade beams.

living simply in the wooden nest, surrounded by smells and textures of natural materials, the sleeping nest above reveals a clerestory open to sun and moon.
