Questions and Answers with His Holiness Suhotra Swami
DANDA 1995 Questions and Answers with His Holiness Suhotra Swami The name of the conference is: (Have) Danda (Will Travel) ENMITY IN THE SPIRTUAL WORLD Question from Aprameya dd January 11, 1995 Recently in the text 60742 - Jiva strategy you quoted the following from Srila Prabhupada's book "Reincarnation Through Wisdom": "Although He is the source of unlimited potencies, He eternally exists in His transcendental, personal form. This form manifests in three aspects, namely, as He sees Himself, as a loving devotee sees Him, and as He is seen by His competitors and enemies." Than you explain that "that was a very clear indication that competition and enmity toward the Lord begins on the eternal platform in relationship with His "transcendental personal form". Is it to be understood that the competition and enmity are existing in Goloka Vrndavana, but how is it possible if as I know, even the slightest envy causes one's fall down from the spiritual world? Or the actual explanation is that this seeming enmity is not real but it is simply like a role in the Krsna's pastimes? Answer by Suhotra Swami January 12, 1995 There is envy and enmity in Goloka Vrndavana, for instance between the two wings of gopis headed by Srimati Radharani and Srimati Candravali respectively. But this is envy and enmity in pure love of Krsna. It pleases Krsna. It does not displease Him. Therefore this envy and enmity is transcendental. It arises from an attitude of service to Krsna. In the quote you've cited from Renunciation Through Wisdom, Srila Prabhupada distinguishes between the way the loving devotees see the Lord and the way His enemies and competitors see Him. -

Srila Prabhupada His Movement And
Dedication Dedicated to my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Acharya of the Brahma-Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya, Founder- Acharya of the Hare Krishna Movement. “He lives forever by his divine instructions, and the follower lives with him.” mukam karoti vachalam pangum langhayate girim yat-kripa tam aham vande sri gurum dina tarinam “By the mercy of the Guru even a dumb man can become a great speaker, and even a lame man can cross mountains.” “All my disciples will take the legacy. If you want, you can also take it. Sacrifice everything. I, one, may soon pass away. But they are hundreds, and this movement will increase. It is not that I give an order, ‘Here is the next leader.’ Anyone who follows the previous leadership is the leader…. All of my disciples are leaders, as much as they follow purely. If you want to follow, you can also lead. But you don’t want to follow. Leader means one who is a first class disciple. Evam parampara praptam. One who is following is perfect.” (Srila Prabhupada, Back to Godhead magazine, Vol. 13, No. 1-2) Phalgun Krishna Panchami By His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada The following is an offering of five prayers glorifying special characteristics of Srila 108 Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur. Presented on the commemoration of his appearance at the Radha-Damodara temple, Vrindavan, India in 1961. First Vasistya 1. On this day, O my master, I made a cry of grief; I was not able to tolerate the absence of my guru. -

Tamal Krishna Goswami: GBC ordered him to suspend initiations in 1980 due to his claiming to be the sole authorized ISKCON guru, after which he explained that Prabhupada never appointed gurus but only appointed rtviks. Immediately GBC re‐instated him. GBC chastised and restricted him in 1996 for his involvement and promotion of Narayan Maharaj as the next ISKCON acharya. Now deceased. His PhD thesis in 2002 was about how Prabhupada had begun a new religion. Deceased March 2002. IN 1984‐1987, GBC MODIFIED ISKCON’S GURU SYSTEM, FINALLY ALLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ANY DEVOTEE WITH 5 YEARS GOOD STANDING AND WITH A NO OBJECTION VOTE AUTHORUIZATION TO ACCEPT DISCIPLES (AT THEIR OWN RISK). -
Where the Rtvik People Are Wrong
Where the Rtvik People are Wrong by Jayadvaita Swami (January 1996) If Srila Prabhupada didn't clearly and definitely say it, and if it first came up after 1977, whatever it is, don't trust it. ÐRule of Thumb The purpose of this paper is to deal with a particular theory of how Srila Prabhupada intended devotees in ISKCON to receive initiation after his physical departure. We'll come to the controversies shortly, but first let's look at what we all agree on. What all of us agree on Forget for a moment that Srila Prabhupada has physically disappeared. Put aside questions of what should happen in modern-day ISKCON. For the moment, let's just look at the standard teaching Srila Prabhupada gave us about the disciplic succession. I apologize for presenting a piece of my own writing from BACK TO GODHEAD, but I think it gives a reasonably concise summary that any ISKCON devotee would agree with. Here it is. From Master to Disciple The parampara is the chain of spiritual masters and disciples through which Krsna consciousness is taught and received. In Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna says, ªI taught this ancient science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan. Vivasvan taught it to his son Manu. And Manu taught it to his son Iksvaku. In this way, through the system of parampara, disciplic succession, the science was understood by the saintly kings.º In the parampara system, then, the original teacher, the original spiritual master, is Lord Krsna, God Himself. The Lord gives perfect knowledge, and that knowledge is handed down from master to disciple. -

On studying his teachings we find that there are four main functions that he wanted the GBCs to carry out. He wanted them to be siksa gurus for all the members of ISKCON. He wanted them to provide leadership to push on the sankirtana movement of Lord Caitanya, and he wanted them to manage the movement in a responsible way. He also wanted them to act as watchdogs, seeing that the proper standards of Krishna consciousness are maintained in all ISKCON temples, that ISKCON’s assets are protected, and that philosophical deviation is not allowed to creep in. -

They are mahājanas. So we have to follow Prahlāda Mahārāja. He is our guru, pūrva-ācārya. Nārada is pūrva-ācārya.He is disciple of Nārada. Therefore he is ācārya, and his disciplic succession... There are sampradāyas: Brahma- sampradāya, Kaumāra-sampradāya... Anyone who is bona fide ācārya, he can create his own disciplic succession, but one disciplic succession and the other disciplic—they are not different. They are of the same conclusion. The Vaiṣṇava ācāryas, just like our Rāmānujācārya, Madhvācārya, and Nimbārka, and who that? Rudra-sampradāya?Viṣṇu Svāmī. They are all of the same movement. Ārādhyo-bhagavān vrajeśa-tanayaḥ, kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam [SB 1.3.28].That is their conclusion. There is no different conclusion. Although they have got varieties of methods—śuddhādvaita, dvaitādvaita, vaśiṣṭādvaita, like that—they present the same philosophy in clear way. And Caitanya Mahāprabhu presented the same philosophy, that acintya-bhedābheda. That is ācārya. Ācārya gives some way for simple understanding. The same conclusion, but according to the time, circumstances, they give a very easy method to understand. -
