A checklist of alien species with their taxonomy, synonymy and with a complete bibliography of their first records is presented. Analysis of the main trends of alien species introduction, present ecological status, origin and pathways is considered. MENDONÇA, SAMUEL BALANIN & DOMINGOS GARRONE-NETO Academy Section: BIOLOGICAL Abstract : In this study we analyzed data on fi shing landings of Genidens barbus in the SCIENCES state of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2000 to 2014. An estimation of the total production was obtained through the analysis of 781,856 landings, among which 87% were categorized as artisanal and 13% as industrial. The abundance index showed some stability in the e20180450 period. However, due to the high number of production units, the fi shing effort need to be maintained, given that there is a risk that increased production might affect the abundance of G. barbus. Thus, as alternatives to maintaining marine catfi sh exploitation 92 in southeastern Brazil under control, the following management actions can be (Suppl. 2) suggested: i) prohibition of fi shing activity by the industrial sector; ii) strengthening of 92(Suppl. 2) inspection of the fl eet that is not allowed to participate in the marine catfi sh fi sheries, with emphasis on purse seiners; and iii) maintenance of a closed season for G. barbus, performing an adaptive management of fi shing prohibition according to the reproductive biology of the species and with the support of artisanal fi shers. -

Moths & Butterflies of Grizzly Peak Preserve
2018 ANNUAL REPORT MOTHS & BUTTERFLIES OF GRIZZLY PEAK PRESERVE: Inventory Results from 2018 Prepared and Submi�ed by: DANA ROSS (Entomologist/Lepidoptera Specialist) Corvallis, Oregon SUMMARY The Grizzly Peak Preserve was sampled for butterflies and moths during May, June and October, 2018. A grand total of 218 species were documented and included 170 moths and 48 butterflies. These are presented as an annotated checklist in the appendix of this report. Butterflies and day-flying moths were sampled during daylight hours with an insect net. Nocturnal moths were collected using battery-powered backlight traps over single night periods at 10 locations during each monthly visit. While many of the documented butterflies and moths are common and widespread species, others - that include the Western Sulphur (Colias occidentalis primordialis) and the noctuid moth Eupsilia fringata - represent more locally endemic and/or rare taxa. One geometrid moth has yet to be identified and may represent an undescribed (“new”) species. Future sampling during March, April, July, August and September will capture many more Lepidoptera that have not been recorded. Once the site is more thoroughly sampled, the combined Grizzly Peak butterfly-moth fauna should total at least 450-500 species. INTRODUCTION The Order Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) is an abundant and diverse insect group that performs essential ecological functions within terrestrial environments. As a group, these insects are major herbivores (caterpillars) and pollinators (adults), and are a critical food source for many species of birds, mammals (including bats) and predacious and parasitoid insects. With hundreds of species of butterflies and moths combined occurring at sites with ample habitat heterogeneity, a Lepidoptera inventory can provide a valuable baseline for biodiversity studies. -

The calyptraeid gastropod Crepidula fornicata is native to the eastern coast of the United States but has now become an extremely successful invader along much of the Euro- pean coastline. As the northern limit of its spread is thought to be determined by an inabil- ity of adults to tolerate prolonged exposure to low winter temperatures, this study sought to compare the fecundity of females collected from two sites along the Norwegian coastline with that of females collected from Rhode Island, USA. Few other studies have compared the fecundities of marine invertebrates from invasive populations with those found in native populations. For both populations studied, fecundities increased with increasing shell length. However, contrary to expectations, size-related fecundities were significantly higher for Norwegian females than for Rhode Island females, with Norwegian females producing larger egg capsules and a greater number of embryos per capsule, but not a greater number of egg capsules per brood.
