A 30-year coaching veteran, Coach Forbes is a proven winner and builder of championship cultures with a 260-77 (.722) overall record in his fi ve years as the head coach at East Tennessee State and at three previous community college head coaching stints. ETSU won 130 games and two SoCon championships during his tenure, while all 22 of his seniors earned their ETSU degrees. Forbes joined elite company in 2018-19, becoming one of just 10 active Division I head coaches who have reached the 100-win mark in their fi rst four seasons. Forbes won at least 24 games in each of his fi ve seasons as the head coach for the Buccaneers while fi nishing third or better in the SoCon every year. During the 2019-20 season, ETSU was having its best season in program history before the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. The Bucs fi nished with a 30-4 record and SoCon regular season and tournament titles. Forbes earned conference coach of the year along with the Hugh Durham Award, given to the most outstanding mid-ma- jor coach in the country. An assistant under three Final Four coaches over the course of his career, Forbes developed his coaching style un- der some of best head coaches in the game. National powers Tennessee and Wichita State both reached the pinna- cle of success with Forbes on the bench. In 2015, Wichita State won a NCAA record 35-straight games to start the season, earning the fi rst No. 1 seed in program history. After a freshman season where he twice earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, Childress suff ered a serious knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 1991-92 season. He came back to earn All-ACC honors in each of his fi nal three seasons on campus, collecting fi rst team honors in 1994 and 1995. In 1995, he led the Deacons to their fi rst ACC Tournament title since 1962, earning Tournament MVP honors after hitting the game-winning jumper against North Carolina with four seconds remaining in overtime. Childress ended the 1995 ACC Tourna- ment with a combined 107 points scored, breaking the previous Tournament record which had stood for 38 seasons. He started his coaching career at Charleston Southern in 2011 and spent six years along- side head coach Barclay Radebaugh. McKie was a part of two CSU Big South regular sea- son championship teams and helped the Bucs to a pair of NIT berths. He helped guide CSU to its winningest season in school history in 2015 and was promoted to associate head coach following the season.

Brooks Savage joined the Wake Forest basketball staff in May 2020 after a highly-success- ful fi ve-year stint as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State University alongside head coach Steve Forbes.

During his fi ve seasons in Johnson City, Savage helped the Buccaneers compile an overall record of 130-43 (.751) and a Southern Conference record of 71-19 (.789). The Bucs earned a pair of fi rst place fi nishes in the Southern Conference and NCAA Tournament berths in 2017 & 2020. During his fi ve seasons with the Bucs, ETSU reached the SoCon Tournament championship game four times.

Savage has served as ETSU’s recruiting coordinator while also supervising the academics program that has helped the Bucs compile a perfect graduation rate. Savage also was the point person of ETSU’s non-conference schedule. While the success of the program cre- ated challenges in scheduling, the Bucs amassed a non-conference record of 47-18 (72%) in fi ve years, including going 16-4 in series started during the Forbes era. ETSU recorded numerous marquee non-conference wins including three over Power 5 schools during this time defeating Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and LSU.

Prior to ETSU, Savage coached at Chattanooga from 2013-2015. He helped the Mocs to a 40-25 record in his two seasons, fi nishing 2nd in the SoCon both seasons. During his sev- en years in the Southern Conference, his teams posted a 98-26 (79%) conference record fi nishing in the Top 3 each year.

Before UTC, Savage entered the D1 Assistant ranks in the Big South conference by helping lead Presbyterian College through the Division 1 transition during the 2012- 13 season. This followed a championship year in 2011-12 as an Assistant at Northwest Florida State College where the Raiders 32 wins set a school record, won the Panhandle Conference title and fi nished as the National Runner-Up. At NWF, Savage helped recruit and develop eleven players that went on to earn Division 1 scholarships. In 2010-11, Savage served as the Director of Video and Player Development at Tulane University. Over Savage’s nine years as an assistant coach his teams have amassed a record of 210-92 overall while fi nishing fi rst or second in conference play in seven of those nine seasons. Since the 2018 off season, Savage has been invited to participate in TopConnect. This college basketball networking event pro- vides a platform for up-and-coming assistant coaches and athletic directors from around the country to learn from one another and help prepare the assistants to become future head coaches. Savage was also named one of “50 Impactful Mid-Major Assistants” by Silver Waves Media in 2020.

A 2008 graduate of Tennessee, Savage holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sports management/business. As an undergrad, he worked as a student manager and graduate assistant from 2004-10 and was a part of fi ve Volunteer NCAA Tour- nament teams in his six seasons. Savage and his wife Lauren are the parents of a daughter, Waverly.

Davis is Tennessee Tech’s all-time three-point shooting leader with 251 triples during his playing career from 2006-10. He fi nished his career by appearing in 125 games, the second-most in school history, and scoring 1,118 career points. Davis excelled in the classroom as well, being named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times.

As a coach, Davis was instrumental in Tennessee Tech’s 2015-16 season in which the Golden Eagles went 19-12 and returned to the postseason for the fi rst time in four sea- sons. Following that season, Davis was named one of 30 assistant coaches to be recog- nized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on its 30-Under-30 team.

Davis is a native of Gainesville, Ga. and a 2010 graduate of Tennessee Tech with a bache- lor’s degree in exercise science and physical wellness and a Master of Arts in elementary and secondary physical education in 2013.

He is married to the former Allison Price who was a three-year starter at guard for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team, and they are the proud parents of their son Cameron.

His team won gold at the U21 World Championships in Argentina in 2005 and won gold again at the Uni- versiade in Thailand in 2007. He was called up to the Lithuanian National Team in 2012 for the Summer Olympics in London and represented Lithuania at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

During his playing career, Kavaliauskas was an LKL or LBL champion seven times and earned LKL MVP status twice. In 2015, he won a silver medal playing for the Lithuanian national team in the European Championship. Three years later in 2018, BC Zalgiris Kaunas fi nished third in the Euroleague.

He and his wife, Amanda, have one daughter, Alayna, and one son, Aaron.

Joe Hugley, who earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Central Connecti- cut State in 2019 and is set to earn his Master’s in Sport Management from East Tennes- see State in August, joins Wake Forest’s basketball staff as its Director of Player Relations.

Along with an outstanding collegiate career on the court that included stints at Baltimore City Community College, CCSU and ETSU, Hugley served as a Peer Mentor for Success during the 2018-19 academic year at Central Connecticut where he counseled others in problem-solving, goal setting, and developing plans of action. Additionally, he provided social support and helped strengthen study skills, note-taking techniques and test-tak- ing strategies to help students be more successful in the classroom.

Hugley was also a camp advisor for the Faith Randolph Elite Camp during the 2017 and 2018 summers in Maryland, and was a camp coach for Steve Forbes in 2019 in Johnson City, Tenn.

On the court, Hugley fi nished his collegiate career in 2019-20 as a graduate transfer for the Buccaneers and Coach Forbes. Named a team captain prior to the season, he appeared in 28 games and averaged 7.5 ppg. and 2.3 rpg. Prior to ETSU, he played two seasons at Central Connecticut State, totaling 580 points and 312 rebounds in 54 games with seven starts.

During the 2018-19 season in New Britain, Conn., Hugley was co-captain and tallied 12.3 ppg. and 5.2 rpg. in 21.8 mpg. Additionally, he ranked third in the Northeast Conference with an .856 free throw percentage. In his fi rst season with the Blue Devils in 2017-18, Hugley averaged 9.5 ppg. and 3.9 rpg.

A native of Gaithersburg, Md., Hugley played his freshman year of college hoops at Balti- more City Community College where he earned NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention status and NJCAA First Team All-Region honors. Overall during the 2016-17 season, he started 30 games for the Panthers and averaged 13.5 ppg., 6.3 rpg., and led the team with 32 blocked shots.

Forbes played a key role in the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball staff , both on and off the court. He assists in scouting, fi lm analysis and team travel while also creat- ing social media content and producing graphics and videos.

He served as a manager for four seasons and as a graduate assistant for two years. Forbes started as an intern in the ETSU Athletics Communications offi ce where he created social media content, produced feature stories and assisted in historical research.

Forbes earned his bachelor’s degree from ETSU in 2018 and his master’s degree in 2020.

Mike Starke joined the Wake Forest basketball staff in May 2020 after serving in a similar role at East Tennessee State. Starke oversees all the strength and conditioning eff orts related to the men’s basketball program including strength and physical development, conditioning, nutrition and recovery needs.

Starke joined the ETSU staff from D1 Sports Training in Knoxville, Tenn. where he served as the head strength coach and general manager of the facility. Among the athletes he trained were MLB player Joe Nathan and pro golfer Wes Roach.

Prior to his stint at D1, Starke was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Miami University (Ohio) where he worked with both the men’s and women’s basketball pro- grams and assisted with the football team.

Starke is a 2013 graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead (Minn.) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. While at Concordia, he was a three-year starter at wide receiver. He then spent two seasons at Tennessee where he worked with the men’s basketball program as a graduate strength and conditioning coach while earning his master’s degree in sport management. While with the Vols, he helped train Jordan McRae, Jarnell Stokes and Josh Richardson.
