This exhibition, presenting one of the largest collections of art by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in the United States, was started by Tom Golden in the summer of 1974. Golden’s personal and professional relationship with the artists began during the 1974 public hearings for Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s project Running Fence. Golden continued to manage and assist with several of the artists’ large-scale projects such as The Umbrellas and Over the River. Drawings and collages of the large-scale public works, sold to fund the actual installations, are an important component of this collection. This collection includes original drawings, sculptures, collages, and photographs capturing the versatility, longevity, and international scope of the duo’s extensive career.

As partners for more than 40 years, Christo and Jeanne-Claude have created lasting environmental installation art throughout the world. Their works include the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin and the Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris, the 24-mile long curtain titled Running Fence in California, and The Gates in New York City’s Central Park. Because their large-scale public projects are temporary, these preliminary artworks remain as evidence of these installations.

This collection represents not only the special relationship between an artist and a collector, but also the collaborative effort between the artists and the many people involved in producing the works.

This exhibition was organized by the Sonoma County Museum, Santa Rosa, CA; Exhibition Tour Management by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, CA.

FOOTE GALLERY Carolyn Hoyle is inspired by the classical music she listens to while painting. She visualizes the sounds that are then transposed into her paintings in the form of color, pattern, and rhythm.

Hoyle received her art education at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her artwork is not only a tribute to musical masterpieces, but is an actual representation of internal resonances made visual by the act of listening. Blue Tango (detail) by Carolyn Hoyle 10 History Exhibits ARCADIA HOTEL HISTORY GALLERY A historic sign from the building located at the corner of 4th Street and Cleveland Avenue was recently donated to the Museum, and it inspired us to create an exhibit showcasing items found during the building’s renovation. Built in 1884, the Allen & Bartholf Building initially housed the W&T Pharmacy on its first floor and a 6,000 square-foot opera house on its second floor until the1920s when the opera house closed and the space was changed into furnished apartments under the name Arcadia Hotel.

ALABASTER INDUSTRY IN COLORADO September 26, 2015 – March 6, 2016 GREEN ROOM See the personal collection of vintage Colorado alabaster items from Fort Collins-based historian and author Jason Marmor. The growing collection, which will be donated to the Museum in the future, includes a wide variety of decorative and functional objects, most of which were made from locally sourced alabaster. Included in the collection are lamp bases, bookends, vases, powder jars, candlesticks, clocks, as well as souvenir salt & pepper shakers from a number of regional tourist destinations. While the Loveland Museum possesses a remarkable collection of alabaster items made by Loveland’s Proctor family, Marmor’s collection includes examples made by other companies and craftsmen working in Colorado and Wyoming during the heyday of the Colorado alabaster industry (c. 1933-1970). Vintage advertising materials from the alabaster industry will also be included in this exhibit. 18 Art in the Pocket Park ART IN THE POCKET PARK In May, the Visual Arts Commission published a request for proposal (RFP) seeking applications from Colorado artists for a summer project to create a temporary art installation in Thompson Park, the pocket park in downtown Loveland. The purpose of the installation is to engage the citizens and visitors of Loveland in the creative process, which will include a public discussion during Night on the Town and other scheduled events. Ten artists submitted ideas for the project and on June 16, a subcommittee of Visual Arts Commissioners and citizen volunteers met and selected local artist Joe Norman as the winner. The concept of “The Bike Band” is to create “BikeStruments,” a set of unique instruments that can be played by pedaling the bike. Installation will begin prior to August 22 when the USA Pro Challenge race comes through downtown Loveland.
