Every May, Canobie sponsors a PHYSICS DAY for high school students. This educational experience is designed for older students who test and apply scientific theories on our major thrill rides. The INTERACTIVE CLASSROOM is also a day dedicated to teaching how principles of science are applied to amusement park rides. This day is geared towards the middle school grades. Both days feature demonstrations and exhibits in addition to the lessons learned on the rides. Still, requests for additional learning guides beyond those previously produced continued. It is to this need that Canobie Lake Park Corporation proudly responds with “ELEMENTS OF FUN!” Your comments are welcomed, since this program’s raison d’être is the educational enrichment of your students. De decembermaand staat weer geheel in het teken van gezelligheid, winterkermissen en kerstmarkten. Gezellig samen op een kerstmarkt lopen en genieten van een glühwein is wel verdient na een jaar hard werken. Nu is het op naar de kerstdagen van 2015. Kerstdagen waar je samen met familie gaat gourmetten of een stevige boswandeling gaat maken. Even de dagelijkse zorgen van je af zetten en vrede op aarde. Laatste leek dit jaar niet echt zo’n succes gezien de dagelijkse beelden op het journaal of de teksten op internet. Ik hoop dat 2016 een jaar wordt met veel vrede op aarde in ieder geval. En natuurlijk hoop ik dat 2016 een jaar wordt met veel kermisplezier. Nieuwe attracties bekijken is altijd leuk. Of afreizen naar een plaats waar je nog nooit eerder naar en kermis geweest bent. Enschede of Hilversum staan volgend jaar bij mij op het programma om te bezoeken, plannen genoeg. Ik ben nu al benieuwd naar de sfeer van de kermissen waar ik nog nooit eerder geweest ben. Elke kermis is weer anders en kent toch een bepaalde sfeer. Niet de attracties bepalen alleen de sfeer maar ook juist de omgeving. Staat een kermis hartje historisch centrum is de sfeer totaal anders als een locatie aan de rand van de stad op een grasveld. Wat 2016 gaat brengen ? Het is koffiedik kijken. Alleen de waarzeggers weten het. Al hoewel ik er eentje ooit hoorde zeggen “wat zal deze kermis me brengen”? Het lijkt me dat dat goeds moet zijn anders had je als waarzegger je toch niet ingeschreven voor deze kermis lijkt me.

The coaster was purchased in 1936 by the owner of Canobie Lake Park and installed here as the “Grey- hound.” The 60 foot tall first hill was destroyed by a hurricane in 1954. In the mid- 70’s, the coaster was renamed the “Yankee Cannonball”. The Yankee Cannonball is known as an “out and back” coaster because of its large “L” shaped layout. The three- car train travels over a track length of 1,840 feet at a maxi- mum speed of 35 miles per hour. The first and highest drop is 53 feet. With a ride time of 52 seconds from the top of the hill to the brakes and 1 min 52 seconds from station to station it has been rated as one of the top ten wooden coast- ers in the country! Camp News Summer of 2017 Sharon Public Schools Message from our Camp Director Dear Families, Starting this Friday night you will be receiving an email from Kaymbu, our visual newsletter. Pictures or videos are taken throughout the week capturing campers participating in different activities either at Heights, the lake or even on field trips. We have around 130 campers that are spread out throughout the building or broken up into smaller groups on trips. Please keep in mind that this is a way for you to see what goes on at camp. This is a great tool to use as a conversational starter when your kids tell you that don’t know what they did at camp today. Please remember to send in a water bottle with your child’s name printed on it. We will refill them at the end of each day and keep them cold in the walk-in. On Friday, we will send them home to be washed and returned for the following week. We also ask, if you know that your child will be out, please call and let us know the name and group your child is in. Equally important, if your child is being picked up early, please let us know what time they will be picked up and who will be picking them up. Don’t forget, we will be taking camp trips once a week and traveling to the lake on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. If your child is in the following groups Barracudas, Mackerels, Hammerheads and Manatees, counselors will be sending home a notice regarding their trip next week to Boda Borg.

Hollywood Visits Canobie Lake Park to Film Scene for Upcoming Movie (Chris Nicoli & Dan Richards) (Photos by Canobie Lake Park) SALEM, NH – The call came from a production coordinator for the new Jason Reitman film, Labor Day. The movie crew had been shooting parts of the film nearby in Massachusetts and the script called for a scene featuring two of the principal characters in an amusement park setting, specifically riding “tea-cups.” Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet and award-winning actor Josh Brolin were the focus of the scene. “Our team worked with the production coordinator to ensure that their experience filming in our great state of New Hampshire was smooth and seamless,” said Chris Nicoli, Canobie’s Marketing and Entertainment Manager. “Canobie Lake Park has been used as a location in other film and television productions over 1 the years, both as a setting and as a featured subject. In this case, we were able to accommodate a major motion picture company that needed just the right look of a classic family amusement Park for the scene.” Canobie’s staff arrived at the Park at 3AM on an August Friday morning to get ready for the arrival of the tractor-trailers of equipment and a full production crew that arrived shortly thereafter. Lighting, cameras, monitors and other essential equipment were put in place in the center of the Park. Test shots were made and extras were put into costume and make-up. The key actors then arrived, the scene was shot and the crew wrapped up after nearly six hours of work before the Park’s scheduled opening of 11AM.
