Please read the following information carefully if you are considering Kendrick School or Reading School as a secondary school option for your Year 5 child in September 2022. The admission process for both schools starts much earlier than application process for other secondary schools.

Kendrick School (girls) The admission tests for Year 7 entry will consist of two papers, each of which assess verbal, numerical and non verbal ability. Applicants are expected to show competence in skills appropriate to Key Stage 2 English and Mathematics, and to be able to apply these skills creatively. A familiarisation paper is now available on Kendrick School’s website via this link.

The tests will take place on Saturday 11th September 2021, and parents will be required to register their child online for the test from 1st May 2021 with a closing date of no later than midnight on Thursday 1st July 2021. Please note this is earlier than the application process for other secondary schools. Parents will receive notification of the test results prior to the completion of the Common Application Form.

Reading School (boys) The Entrance Test consists of 3 elements: English, Maths and Creative Writing. Applicants are expected to show ability appropriate to the Key Stage 2 curriculum. No additional preparation is necessary. All 3 will be tested on one day in September and all tests will take place at Reading School. There are no ‘practice papers’, but a familiarisation paper will be available on the website in May 2021.

The tests will take place during the weekend of Saturday 11th September and Sunday 12th September 2021 and parents will be required to register their child online for the test from 1st May 2021 with a closing date of no later than midnight on Wednesday 30th June 2021. Please note this is earlier than the application process for other secondary schools. Parents will receive notification of the test results prior to the completion of the Common Application Form.

In both schools, students who are eligible for pupil premium or service premium or is a looked after child/previously looked after child, and living within the schools’ designated area, will be prioritised for admission and the qualifying score will be lowered by 5 marks for these students.
