Apprentices work alongside experienced staff to gain specific skills. Apprentices also attend a training provider such as a local college (usually on a day release basis) to receive additional training which leads to recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships usually last between one and three years depending on the training programme. Looking for an apprenticeship is like looking for a job. You will be interviewed and may need to take a test for the employer or training provider to check an apprenticeship is right for you. If you would like more information about apprenticeships or any other careers options, just call into your nearest Connexions office, or give us a call on 01258 454454. How much do you get paid: The new National Minimum Wage (NMW) came into force on 1 October 2012 where all apprentices will be paid a minimum of £2.68 per hour*. The new apprentice NMW applies to all 16 to 18 year olds and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If you reach age 19 and have completed the first year of your Apprenticeship your employer must pay you at least the full NMW rate for those aged 18 to 20. If you are already 19 and have completed the first year of your Apprenticeship you must be paid at least the NMW rate for your age. Our first event will take place in Bournemouth on 9 May 2015. We would love for your organisation to help us reach out to talented young people who are passionate about working in the media industry. What is C4 Pop Up? C4 Pop Up is a national outreach programme of skills workshops and challenges, taking place across the UK, to promote careers within the media industry and to identify undiscovered talent. As the official UK broadcaster of the Rio 2016 Paralympic games, the theme of diversity and inclusivity will be central to the project and the young people will be working on Rio-inspired media challenges. Workshops will focus on factual production, marketing, or tech, and will be facilitated by our tutors and Channel 4 freelancers. At the end of each workshop, the challenge submissions will be viewed and judged by a C4 panel, and one winning team from each creative workshop will be selected to attend a national finale in late December where the overall winners will be announced. Individuals identified through the process (based on merit, effort and talent) will win CV-enhancing opportunities. Where and when is the event? C4 Bournemouth Pop Up will take place from 9am until 6pm on Saturday 9 May 2015 at the University of Bournemouth Media School. Specific details of the venue and event will be revealed once the applicants have successfully passed through an online application process. The application website will go live on Monday 23 March 2015 at http://4talent.channel4.com/4talent-days. MyKindaCrowd will hand-pick the winners based on experience and opportunity. Who can apply? The event is for anyone over 16 who wants to break into the media industry. We never say ‘you must have this’ or ‘you must be like that’ – we love it when the group is really diverse. All that matters is that you’re truly passionate about the media industry, and that you’ve got a bit of raw talent that sets you apart from the crowd. • Joint Local Plan Review for West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland
Joint Local Plan Review for West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland INITIAL ISSUES AND OPTIONS CONSULTATION FEBRUARY 2017 West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland Local Plan Review Foreword We are delighted to introduce the review of the West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland joint Local Plan. Although it is only a short time ago since the examination and adoption of the joint Local Plan, the inspector who examined the plan said that the councils should prepare an early review. This review needs to identify additional land capable of meeting housing needs to the end of the current plan period (2031) as well as the broad locations for development in the five year period thereafter (to 2036). The inspector pointed towards Dorchester and Sherborne as locations for future growth, but we have also considered a range of options in our coastal and market towns. Government planning policy has changed on a number of issues including the introduction of ‘starter homes’ and ‘self build and custom housebuilding’ aimed to fulfil the Government’s priority to build more homes. We are therefore addressing these issues too. This first consultation document presents the issues relevant to the plan area today and seeks your thoughts on the different options that we can take. It is important to remember that these are ‘options’ which will be refined at a later stage - there is no commitment to any one solution at this point. The review of the adopted local plan is just starting and we are keen to seek as many different views as possible before we go any further. Your views are really important to us and the feedback we receive will guide decisions as the plan progresses towards examination and adoption.
