The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requires that the effects of such projects on cultural resources be assessed. Prior to selection of the present road extension alignment, three alternative road alignments were considered. In order to assess the effects of the potential project on cultural resources, in 2002 RBF Consulting of Walnut Creek, California requested that Archaeological/Historical Consultants (AH/C) conduct a cultural resources study of three alternative alignments. Subsequently, an Archaeological Survey of the proposed alternative alignments was completed in July 2002. -

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS (RFQ) for 30%-Design Preliminary Engineering for the Downtown Los Angeles Streetcar LOS ANGELES STREETCAR, INC AUGUST 14, 2015 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Los Angeles Streetcar, Inc. (LASI) is seeking an Engineering Firm/Team (Design Consultant) to develop 30% Engineering Design for the proposed Los Angeles Streetcar (“Project”). The Project is currently undergoing environmental review pursuant to CEQA, to be followed by federal NEPA review upon certification of the Final Environmental Impact Report. The Project is also in the process of securing federal funding under the FTA Small Starts program, and exploring potential P3 partnerships for capital funding and operational support. The work of the Design Consultant will be overseen by LASI and the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (BOE), with close coordination with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (DOT)—LASI, BOE, and DOT are referred to herein as the Streetcar Project Team. The Design Consultant’s day-to-day communications will be with the Principal Civil Engineer at BOE. To advance the Project, the Design Consultant will develop plans to 30% Design and Engineering concurrent with the Metro-led environmental review process. The Scope of Work (SOW) for the Design Consultant will focus on defining the project’s centerline, geometry, profile, and cross sections, and will identify utility conflicts and work with utility companies to identify potential solutions, address project risks and impacts, provide the basis for a refined cost estimate, and position the project for federal funding and potential public-private partnership(s). The SOW includes 30% Design and Engineering for each of the 4 Project Alternatives evaluated in the EIR: 1) 7th St alternative with Grand Ave extension; 2) 7th St alternative without Grand Ave extension; 3) 9th St alternative with Grand Ave extension; and 4) 9th St alternative without Grand Ave extension. -
Eternal Lies Addendum – Local Newspapers
ETERNAL LIES ADDENDUM – LOCAL NEWSPAPERS This addendum to the Alexandrian Remix of Eternal Lies adds historically-sourced local newspapers to all of the major locations of the campaign. I have not researched papers for New York (the PCs spend so little time there; and, if in doubt, use the New York Times) or Thibet (the PCs are in such an isolated location that newspapers are unlikely to be available, except perhaps for an international edition of a paper like the Paris Herald Tribune, as described under Bangkok newspapers). Hitting up the morgues of local papers for leads has become such a standard procedural element for Cthulhu-esque investigators that I probably don’t need to pontificate upon it at any great length here. It should be noted that the original campaign references a number of specific newspapers in which specific articles of note are published; those are generally not mentioned here (although obviously they also exist). The purpose of this resource is to provide a firm foundation for the GM to improvise from when the PCs go off the beaten path and begin performing unanticipated background research. When I originally ran the campaign, I also found that it was not particularly uncommon for the globetrotting PCs to specifically request a local newspaper upon checking into a new hotel. Being able to reference specific papers (with a few personalizing factoids to distinguish one broadsheet from another) proved to be a remarkably effective and immersive technique that can contribute greatly to the meaningful sensation of the campaign moving through space and culture. -

Mount Shasta Annotated Bibliography Chapter 23 Literature: Poetry Mount Shasta as a symbol of high ideals, as a symbol of God's domain, as a symbol of purity, and as an inspiring presence, are just some of the varied themes which run through the 19th and 20th Century poems about this majestic mountain. In 1854 John Rollin Ridge, a Cherokee Indian who later became editor of the Sacramento Bee newspaper, wrote one of the earliest Mt. Shasta poems; entitled Mount Shasta it became one of the most famous California poems. Ridge's message was one for the entire state, and the poem contains lines such as "And well this Golden State shall thrive, if like Its own Mount Shasta, Sovereign Law shall lift Itself in purer atmosphere—so high..." The well-known abolitionist poet John Greenleaf Whittier, in 1863, used Shasta as a symbol of God's works: "Amidst the glorious works of thine, The solemn minarets of Pine, And awful Shasta's icy shrine,-Where swell thy hymns from wave and gale..." Many Mt. Shasta poems are less abstract and more personal in sentiment. Joaquin Miller, who lived from 1854-57 near Mt. Shasta, and who visited many times thereafter, wrote several poems about his old home mountain. In his Shadows of Shasta poem, reprinted in this section, one sees his recurring theme of the 'Shadows,' or dark secrets, he saw inflicted on the lives of the Indians at the hands of the whites: "In the place where the grizzly reposes, Under peaks where a right is a wrong...." Fionn MacKillop The municipalization of the water service in Los Angeles (LA) in 1902 was the result of a (mostly implicit) compromise between the city’s political, social, and economic elites. The economic elite (the “oligarchy”) accepted municipalizing the water service, and helped Progressive politicians and citizens put an end to the private LA City Water Co., a corporation whose obsession with financial profitability led to under-investment and the construction of a network relatively modest in scope and efficiency. -
