Ivery Chancellor, Wayne County Community College District 2 NEW DAY. NEW WAY WCCCD 2020 FALL ACADEMIC SCHEDULE Chancellor’s Message It gives me great pride to welcome you back to Wayne County Community College District. The past several months has presented a wholly unique challenge to all of us. We recognize that those challenges have not disappeared, but by working together, WCCCD has been able to adjust and adapt our world-class programs and facilities in ways that allow our students to achieve their educational goals and helps them, their families, and our region grow and thrive. Our New Day, New Way initiative not only sustains our vital mission of creating pathways to better lives through higher education, but leverages the creativity, resolve, and ingenuity of the entire WCCCD community. Inside this schedule are more than 1, 000 classes and programs that advance our students’ education goals, and present new opportunities to find an in-demand career that they love. While there are many distance learning opportunities for our students, we have remade our in-class learning experience to help ensure safe learning, but also to provide more individualized attention, greater engagement, and a broad array of innovative learning experiences. In-person classes have been made smaller to allow for the access our students need while still physical distancing, as well as greater attention and interaction between faculty members and students. We have multiplied the number of the same classes to ensure our students still have the access they need to move towards completion. and we have implemented hybrid class structures – using the best of online or virtual experiences for instruction, and small group in-person labs and other instruction that help our students directly apply what they are learning. We have remade aspects of our student services and administrative processes so that they can be accessed online and via video conference. Students may now connect with academic advising, financial aid, research and learning resources, and career planning services at wcccd.edu. Books and class supplies can also be purchased from our bookstores online and delivered directly to students’ homes. We have put in place rigorous procedures that follow CDC and state official guidelines to help ensure that everyone who enters our classrooms can do so confidently and safely. WCCCD’s New Day, New Way initiative is not a stopping point. Rather, it’s a starting point to reimagine how we support our nearly 70, 000 students’ learning and growth as they persist towards their goals. It is an honor to help you move towards your educational goals. Together, we will continue to build our New Way forward. Dr. Curtis L.
