The hiking trails shown are registered in the Plan Départemental des Itinéraires de Promenade et de Randonnées (PDIPR – Departmental Map of Walking and Hiking Routes).

In the footsteps of the Blacksmiths, the Miners, the Poète Cadou … The territory of Castelbriant will have no secrets for you … Varied trails of different levels of difficulty for young and old. The medieval heart in Châteaubriant, the protected ecological heritage in Moisdon la Rivière, the slopes of the Chère in Saint Aubin des Châteaux, the Forges de la Hunaudière in Sion les Mines, bird watching at the Beaumont pond in Issé … are all paths to explore alone, with family and friends …

Some recommendations for hikers:

These hiking trails were born from the will shared by the municipalities, associations, volunteers and private owners, to preserve sunken lanes, to protect flora and fauna and to restore and enhance the local heritage. Please respect the places and the environment around you … and stay on the marked path. Our beautiful countryside just needs to be preserved in order to better recharge our batteries. In a territorial approach and to develop a sufficiently dense and quality network of paths, the Châteaubriant-Derval Community of Communes is responsible for leading the establishment and maintenance of the paths. We hope that you will appreciate during your hike, the efforts and the partnership deployed by all stakeholders to preserve our rural areas and thus allow everyone to recharge their batteries and appreciate the benefits.

Cycling, roller skating and walking on an old railway line.

In the heart of the countryside, in 2004 the Communauté de Communes du Castelbriantais (Community of Communes of Castelbriantais) converted an old 13 km railway line into a trail specially fitted out for cycling, roller skating and walking. This is an invitation to relax and to get away from motorized traffic ! Country landscapes, forests, lakes, fields, meadows and typical villages are laid out before you along this path, ideal for all ages thanks to its gentle slopes. Just take a short cycle ride to discover the tranquillity of the countryside. DEPARTURE FROM ROUGÉ:

Car park at the old Rougé station. Picnic area, public toilets, small sports course.

DEPARTURE FROM CHÂTEAUBRIANT :

On the way to the past

Since the start of 2016, the Voie Verte has been revealing its railway past. A whole story brought to light thanks to the creation of an interpretation trail on the Châteaubriant-Messac section interpretation panels.

If the Green Way is a development appreciated by hikers, joggers, cyclists… its origin is very often unknown to them. An interpretive trail installed in March now pierces the secrets of this old railway line opened in 1896 and which allowed the transport of passengers and freight between Châteaubriant and Ploërmel.

Resulting from a cooperation between the Community of Communes of Moyen Vilaine and Semnon & the Community of Communes of Castelbriantais, the project is supported by the European Leader of the Pays de Châteaubriant and Vallons de Vilaine programs.

Equipped with a small leaflet, the walker will discover over this 45 km section – including 13 km in our territory – 6 panels retracing the history of railway heritage; Illustrated with old postcards and historical anecdotes: The transport of goods, the house of the gatekeeper or even mining make up some of the stations highlighted which offer the possibility of direct access by a newly developed path on the site of Mines de la Brutz. Leaflet available at the Intercommunal Tourist Office
