We spent the entirety of Fall planning the annual Homecoming Parade. This year’s theme was aptly titled, “A Change in Time, Homecoming 2009” and we chose to focus on themes involving specific decades starting from the Stone Age to Futuristic. We had a record number of attendees at the actual parade, featuring floatswith juke boxes from the 1950’s from Attractions Hair Salon to colorful spandex recreating the 1980’s by Ohio University’s Student Senate. However, the afterglow of Homecoming quickly fades and we are on to our next event, Sibs Weekend in February. We both are looking forward to spicing up Sibs Weekend this year, featuring a lazer light show events on each floor of Baker Center for a more night-club kind of vibe. We can’t wait to try something different and look forward to the New Year! CONCERTS NORA & MARISA Fall Events: Fall quarter was an exciting first quarter as a concerts programmer. It was filledwith many obstacles, learning experiences and opportunities. We brought in an artist called Gavin Castleton and his trio, who

performed in Baker Center outside of the theater. Their music is more “An artist who is earnest and serious with their work, confident, yet humble“An in artistapproach who is and earnest presentation and serious to with their work, indie and different than any other artist UPC has brought in the past. the public, and offersconfident, true substance, yet humble is anin approachexhilarating and find.presentation to Such is the case of Gavinthe public, Castleton.” and offers true substance, is an exhilarating find. They opened our minds to all that music can offer and were so fun Such is the case of Gavin Castleton.” to work with. We set up high top tables, chairs, made the ambiance welcoming and comfortable and had a great turn out. It was rewarding to give students a free concert to enjoy themselves at with friends. Winter Events: This winter quarter we are proud Lights just to name a few. Ingrid to bring Mat Kearney and Ingrid is a indie-pop singer-songwriter Michaelson to Ohio University on best known for her single “The March 11th. Mat has toured with Way I Am.” Some of the songs artists such as John Mayer, The Fray have been featured on many and Jason Mraz. He has received popular television shows such widespread recognition for his as Scrubs, Grey’s Anatomy Columbia Records debut song and One Tree Hill. We are so Nothing Left to Lose. His songs excited to bring both of them have also been featured on Without and hope that some of you A Trace, The Hills and Friday Night can come! M a The Major GBM committee j also learned a lot about how UPC o concerts happen. We started out the r

quarter by playing a fun activity where C

everyone came up with a fantasy rider that o they would want if they were a superstar artist m

performing at OU. As weeks progressed our

committee contacted agents, looked over m

contracts and learned how to use agency i

t

websites. We are looking forward t

to another great quarter with a e brand new committee! e Our Vice Chairs have been hard at work helping us out. This winter quarter, in collaboration with the Campus Involvement Center, they have planned their own small concert in the Front Room Coffee at Baker Center, and an event called Cup of Court that showcased local coffeehouses and live music. They are working hard to plan several other events that will help them be prepared to plan the 3rd Annual South Beach Block Party!
