LOUISIANA GOVERNOR BOBBY JINDAL KEYNOTE SPEAKER DURING ANNUAL TEMPLETON LECTURE AT THE NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER

Philadelphia, PA (November 8, 2013) – Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal outlines his vision for U.S. energy policy during the 11th annual John M. Templeton, Jr. Lecture on Economic Liberties and the Constitution at the National Constitution Center. Kevin Hassett, John G. Searle Senior Fellow and Director of Economic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, will deliver the response. Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen will serve as moderator. Governor Jindal has been an outspoken critic of President Obama’s energy policies, writing in The Wall Street Journal, “This administration willfully ignores rational choices that would lower energy prices and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign energy sources.” As the keynote speaker, Governor Jindal will present his perspective on the connection between energy policy and economic prosperity for the nation.

The annual John M. Templeton, Jr. Lecture at the National Constitution Center showcases the most important thinkers and policy-makers in America as they discuss economic liberties and current issues in a forum open to the public. Past keynote speakers have included: American Enterprise Institute President Arthur C. Brooks, economist Lawrence H. Summers, Christopher DeMuth, Vanguard Chairman John C. Bogle, former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, Cardinal Roger Mahony, Scott Bullock of the Institute for Justice, legal scholar Cass Sunstein, and Bruce Ackerman, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University.

About Governor Bobby Jindal Governor Bobby Jindal attended and later Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2001. In 2004, he was elected to the representing the First District of Louisiana and, in his first term, played an instrumental role in Louisiana’s recovery from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He was sworn in as Governor of Louisiana in 2008.

About Kevin A. Hassett Kevin A. Hassett is the John G. Searle Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). Before joining AEI, Hassett was a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and an associate professor of economics and finance at Columbia University. He served as a policy consultant to the U.S. Department of the Treasury during the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations. Hassett has also served as an economic adviser to presidential candidates since 2000, including George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign, John McCain’s 2008 presidential primary, , and ’s 2012 campaign. He is the author of many books, including most recently, Rethinking Competitiveness (2012). Hassett has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in economics from Swarthmore College.
