Lapid RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING THE POUND-FOR-POUND KING AND OCTUPLE BOXING CHAMPION CONGRESSMAN EMMANUEL DAPIDRAN PACQUIAO OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE PEOPLE'S CHAMP MANNY "PACMAN" PACQUIAO FOR SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDING HIS WORLD BOXING ORGANIZATION WELTERWEIGHT WORLD TITLE FROM AMERICAN BOXER "SUGAR" SHANE MOSLEY AT THE MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, U.S.A. ON 7 MAY 2011 WHEREAS, the Philippine Senate has in several occasions paid tribute to outstanding Filipino athletes for their astonishing feat of bringing home pride and glory to the country by becoming champions in international sporting competitions; WHEREAS, Octuple champion and People's Champ Congressman Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao made the country proud when he emerged victorious in his match against American boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley defending his WBO welterweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. on 7 May 2011; WHEREAS, the 32-year old pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao crushed American boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley through a lopsided unanimous decision of 119- 108, 120-108 and 120-107 upping his boxing record of 53-3-2 (53 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws) with 38 knockouts; WHEREAS, Congressman Manny Pacquiao is the first boxer in history to win ten world titles, the first to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes, and the first and only boxer in history to be hailed an octuple champion with his world titles in eight unprecedentedly different weight divisions, to wit: junior welterweight, lightweight, super featherweight, featherweight, super bantamweight, flyweight, welterweight and super welterweight divisions; WHEREAS, by winning this fight, Congressman Manny Pacquiao has, once again, made our country proud and has shown to the world the unrelenting spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence; WHEREAS, this outstanding performance by our Filipino boxer deserves to be commended for the honor and recognition he has brought to our country, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate to congratulate and commend the pound-for-pound king and octuple boxing champion Congressman Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao otherwise known as the People's Champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao for successfully defending his World Boxing Organization Welterweight World title from American boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. on 7 May 2011 Adopted, M~ "LITO" M.
