As R.A. Harold, she is the author of two historical mysteries, Heron Island, set in Vermont, and its sequel, Murdered Sleep, set in Washington, DC. Murdered Sleep won EVENTS/PRESENTATIONS the 2015 Genre Fiction award from the Independent Publishers of New England (IPNE). Her work has been published in Vermont Life, Hunger Mountain, Synezoma, and South Carolina Review. A 2001 graduate of Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English, she 10:00 – 12:00 / WOODSTOCK HISTORY CENTER won its Robert Haiduke Poetry Prize in 1999. She is a frequent contributor of articles and reviews to the Montpelier Bridge and is active in POETRY WORKSHOP: BARON WORMSER, FORMER MAINE community theater. She is currently at work on two new novels, neither of them mysteries (except, at this point, to herself). POET LAUREATE Born in Sacramento, California, Kate George has crisscrossed the continent, living in places like Catalina Island, Vancouver, British Participants in this generative workshop will be writing poems based on various poem-prompts designed to provide a degree of structure Columbia and Vermont. She currently lives miles from anywhere content to write mystery and romance surrounded by her dogs (3) while inciting imagination. Anyone interested in writing some new poems is welcome. Baron Wormser is the author/co-author of and children (4). She has published two Bree MacGowan mysteries, Moonlighting in Vermont and California Schemin’ and is currently fourteen books and a poetry chapbook. His books include Scattered Chapters: New and Selected Poems, The Road Washes Out in Spring: a working on the third in the series. Poet’s Memoir of Living Off the Grid, and The Poetry Life: Ten Stories. Wormser has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Bread Loaf, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. From 2000 to 2006 he served as poet laureate of the 12:00-12:40 / PARISH HALL, ST. JAMES CHURCH state of Maine. He has taught many dozens of workshops across the United States and continues to offer generative workshops along MICHAEL DESANTO, OWNER OF PHOENIX BOOKS with workshops focusing on the works of a particular poet. What was it about her leadership during that scandal that appealed to the trustees, do you think? Were the qualities that got her the role the same ones she would ultimately need as president? Why or why not? 2. What parallels do you see between the Radclyffe Hall problem and the protest at the Stump? If you were in Naomi’s shoes, as the president of the college, how would you have solved each of these crises? 3. Talk about Naomi’s relationship with her only daughter, Hannah. There is nothing thrilling here whatsoever. Not that there is anything remotely wrong with this - but if you pick something up because you are in the mood for a thriller, and instead get minutiae and screeds of introspection, which then is accessorised as a thriller cliff hangers plonked down as conversational gambit at the end of the very long chapters then is it any wonder that so many reviewers are talking about their frustrations as readers, rather than what they liked about the book? Which is quite a shame really, because Jean Hanff Korelitz can certainly write, certainly has insights to offer, and I personally got a lot out of reading the final quarter of the book. Some have said they felt the ending didn't do it for them, but I am wondering if this is also about the expectations the marketing has set up. But once I had accepted this was not a thriller after all, and that what was on offer was a story of aftermath and an albeit very, very slow emotional transition I stopped skimming and was hooked. Because up until then, I don't think there was ever any sense that anything that was happening to Grace was in any way about 'fucking with her' as it were, but more that she and Henry were unfortunate collateral damage.
